Arizona Chickens

They missed me. Gus was pacing back and forth and sounded like he was crying. The other ones came running. Hazel got so big. She is so pretty.

@Michelle Guynn welcome back! Thanks for posting all those pictures, it was nice to go on a virtual vacation with ya :D As for the tent idea, I think it could work. Just be vigilant for ventilation. I'm not sure how many chickens you have, but when mine were young they outgrew their baby brooder, but were still too small to go outside. I bought one of those huge puppy canvas crate things from Amazon, it worked great. But for multiple full grown chickens I think it may be too small. Maybe they make bigger sizes, you could check online.

She only has those silkies, except for that pullet that she got from me that is an Australorp/Crested Cream Legbar cross.

A mini blog post: (just felt like writing down my chicken thoughts/plans)

I'm so bummed I was hoping the forecast was wrong last night at roost time it was a pleasant temp, not hot but i just came in from outside at 5 am sun up time my girls were already panting a bit

That's a bad sign, of course they are thirsty bc they were still on their roost about to come down but i haven't seen morning panting this summer it is warm out there very warm at 5 am and I know these next 2 days will be me going out every 2 hours

Thankfully I do have a deep freezer dedicated solely to ice bottles, both small and large and it's full

This time I'll take out the bottles in shifts, first one at around nine next one about 1 pm and I'll crush ice and feed it to them at roost

I washed their water containers in prep for the drinking its funny how when I bring them back in everyone wants to drink from them. They are waiting for the washed containers as if it's treat time although they are never without water while I wash, I like to think they appreciate the cleanliness of it lol
I'm using vitamins and wet feed along with dry the buffs aren't as hot as the ee's but that's bc only 2 buffs are currently laying and the ee's are all laying so that heats them up more they also need to eat more too so...

Last night Goldie was standing in the wet mud with her eyes closed i could just see the "ahhhhh" in her mind lol she came out looking like she was dipped in chocolate lol

Lastly the buffs aren't with the a.c. so if I notice higher distress I'll take the buff girls over to the a.c. and leave roo with ice on his side

Phew, I just came in from letting the girls out and I'm all sweaty :sick

It's 82* in the coop this morning so the fan definitely helps cool it down at night :woot

The girls are starting their day with ice in their wading pools that I can refresh every couple hours. I also gave them some electrolytes and put ice in all the waterers. There's a few muddy areas that are still wet from yesterday so I wet those some more to keep them muddy. Frozen gallons of water are ready in the freezer.

I plan to let them into the grass yard over the next few afternoons, deeper shade, and keep a bowl of ice water over there for them. They really enjoyed it yesterday afternoon.
