Arizona Chickens

Today was great, such a relief from the heat. We only got up to 92* and had cloud cover for most of the day. The news kept telling me rain was coming, but nothing yet!
@BlueBaby so sorry to hear about Miracle, I hope some of those chicks are from her.
@meetthebubus how is your hen with the canker issue? Did you ever find out if it really is canker?
Random information, but did you guys know you can give your chickens milk? I read in one of my chicken books this evening that they love it, and it's a good calcium & protein supplement. Definitely not a replacement for good ol water, but I may fill a small dish tomorrow and see what they think of it!

Thanks for asking! I was so worried but I don't think it's canker, I never was sure bc it didn't look like the pics online finally I researched an old post that mentioned it could be injury, or some sort of bacteria,...

Anyhow most of it has gone away on its own unless the treatments of vitamins and immune boosters helped as well bc that's all I gave was natural supplements there's just a little weird one and I think it could of been a peck injury when she was panting and it got right on the inside of her mouth where its moist and that's why it looked weird bc it was healing but moist?....

So fuzz buzz (fuzzy) is a fighter and she's my heaviest ee too, maybe that good appetite has helped her :)
I could go on and on about each of them... lol

@igorsMistress get better quick. Never any fun being sick and having heat making it worse!
@BlueBaby sorry about Miracle. Look back at Desert Chic's posts about the eggs being no good and having the hen die - seems this is happening to you too? And the humidity was ugly yesterday. Hope your hatch is moving along.
@meetthebubus good news about the possible canker - I imagine the supplemental goodies helped their immune systems - that is a good thing.
@SonoranChick I worry about too much milk type products, including yogurt. This heat curdles milk in human babies, could it make their crops ugly. My worry. In the cooler months if I have something left over - we don't do much milk, etc - I'll give it to them - and they are crazy for it!
Hopefully today's temp is as nice as yesterday. I'll get some work done in the chicken yard!!
BYW - we had big lightening and thunder but no rain or if we did it was only about 13 drops!

Looks like some of you north of me may have had some crazy rain,

Thank you for this info! I'll wait til it cools down a bit more to give them milk. After Momo's issue, the last thing I want is another crop problem.

I had 14 in there when I started out. I sold 3 of them a few days ago to @nicollee so her insistant broody could try hatching them out. I had 5 here hatching, but one of those died before it finished getting out of the egg. There are 6 more eggs in the incubator that haven't hatched yet.
2 NN hatched third one :hit
So sorry about Miracle....always hard to lose our friends

I have 2 I’m hoping hatch this weekend.
:jumpy:jumpyGood luck...

I don't know if it is or not. The light blue NN chick that hatched from a tan egg has curled feet on it, so I will probably be culling it today.

Only some dust blew through here last night, but no rain. I guess it did rain in the city od Maricopa, but stopped before it got to me over here.

Just got back from the ortho dr. Need to do an injection in my hip to see if I can get relief from pain. If not then surgery. My MRI is pretty good just s few small areas. On a side note have a cyst in my pelvic region. Uhhhggh one thing after another.

I hope that all goes well for you! :hugs
