Arizona Chickens

I've had a massive Red Hawk scouting out my flocks. Luckily my 13 roosters do a fantastic job of both sounding the alarm and hurrying the girls to sheltered area, giving me time to react. It turns out that hawks don't like being blasted by a water hose. It should be grateful that that's what I had immediately handy instead of my rifle or crossbow.

:woot crossbow

Still haven't fixed the leak in the next box and it looks like more rain is headed our way tomorrow night! Guess I'll have to be nagging hubby after all :D I am so used to taking care of most chicken issues myself but I can't wiggle my way to the top of the nest box with this giant belly lol. I can barely reach the eggs in the back of the box. I love being pregnant but it will be nice when she's finally here and I am able to do things like lift, carry, climb and reach again!

Ah...yes....I remember that stage of pregnancy. And shortly after giving birth I remember wishing I was still pregnant so I could actually enjoy a hot meal and even sleep through the night again. That didn't happen until he was 4 years old. ;)

My crossbow is in the spare room. I need to get new bales of hay to put in the back of the yard on the pallets to replace those older bales. We stack them up and use those to practice.

My buff orps started laying again today, the molt was so fast and light! One, I think punky, layed a
shell-less egg, so I gave them more calcium, I figure it's normal bc of the chick feed

So I got 3 eggs, from them, 11 egger eggs they are faithful layers

Btw only Rambita molted from the eggers and only a bit bc she wasn't laying so I assume it triggered molt instead

Chulita is growing up great has a white fuzz beard I see Marshmellow in her and I think her eyes will be big like her mama Guava.

The coop is coming along! Roof going on today.
