Arizona Chickens

@meetthebubus I have a theory for this and maybe I've said it here before. We raise chickens in a desert climate known to go 150 days without rain. So we have very little respiratory problems. At monsoons we have a really wet day we get coughs and a bit of wheezing. Goes away fast. This year we've had tons of rain so we have wayyyyy more respiratory going on. I have sneezing and coughs. As it drys out it clears up and goes away. It is the weather causing our problems - almost like they get asthma. My theory and I'm sticking to it!

I hope you are right! I think that makes sense. Bc it is running rampid through my Easter eggers. I'm thinking them staying outside at night has something to do with it bc we get ALOT of dew in the morning even they feel moist on their outer feathers maybe that's affecting? Everytime I go out to the coop I find a new weezer, or sneezer or ......

Ok need help. Norman is limping an favoring his right leg. I gave him an aspirin and have him separate. What else can I do.

Well I'm no expert, just to warn you, but maybe isolation could help maybe he injured it trying to mate, he is small, and since he is repeating the motion by continuing to mate its getting worse? I have heard of taking a pillowcase in a plastic tub, securing the sides to the sides of the tub, cutting holes to fit his legs through and leaving him in there with access to food and water (and a hole to release droppings)

Anyhow it suspends them in air but supports their body so no weight is on the injured leg kind of like those baby door jumpers, just don't let his legs reach the bottom

That might help with an injury, or just isolation, limited movement, is he eating and drinking ok? Droppings normal?

He is eating and alert to his environment. I have him isolated in Matilda’s old cage. I added extra vitamins to his food and water. Gave him some salmon he gobbled up. I also wormed him today. Hopefully he will heal. I made a vet appt for Tuesday.

@Michelle Guynn keep us updated wishing him well

Update: this morning everyone seems ok. No wheezing just a few sneezes, so my panicking wasn't necessary I guess although when does it hurt to add calming chicken vitamins to the water? Lol

Mama and baby are doing well, integrated with the flock, today is hatch b day for chulita, been 7 weeks we celebrated that plus better health by having treats in the morning (unheard of here all bubus were surprised) with spaghetti no sauce and spinach!
