Arizona Chickens

Merry Christmas from Cora & the coop! Hope you all had a relaxing holiday and enjoyed a little rain. Looks like the next few days will be pretty chilly for us.
We got 6 eggs today, so production is up. But, one had a crack in the shell, so our mastiff got to have it for a snack. Then the other dog felt left out, so she got an egg as well. Then when my husband turned around, the mastiff had stolen ANOTHER egg for herself! So, 6 eggs came out of the coop, but only 3 went into the fridge :lau Oh well.

Merry day after Christmas!! We got rain last night - not gallons but enough to make things wet this morning. Now the sun is shinning but there is still chill in the air. Stay safe all of you all.........

It poured at my house, and it's quite chilly. They're calling for a hard freeze tonight. Have I mentioned I'm not a winter gal? :he

Every time I step outside at least half a dozen chickens run to me begging to be picked up and snuggled, presumably to get warm. Two of them actually followed me into the house this afternoon and I had to chase them back out. And I thought I was a whiner about the cold. Gheesh!

@SonoranChick I see with your pic that you are already starting to make the memories with Cora! :D I got 5 egg's today out of 11 girls, but 2 of those are just coming out of molt.

@DesertChic Your chickens were just trying to let you know that your house is their house! :lau

@FeatherPugs It rained a bit here last night off and on, but it wasn't too bad. It was still a bit chilly with the wind here today than I like it to be.

It's hard to believe that this year is almost gone already, huh?

LOL! I was just gonna comment on the very obvious boy in that little cluster of chicks. I'm glad he has a new home to enjoy.
Blackie isn't in the group photo, he went to his new coop yesterday, the little boy that you see is speed racer..lol, he looked like he had a racing stripe down his back as a baby. I feel guilty for booting them out today, I didn't look at the temps for the next week and we're due to get down to 27 at night for a few days and a couple the high is going to be in the 40's. I know me, I'll be out at first light checking on them.

Yes, they said on the new's that it's supposed to get pretty cold this weekend.

:eek:Yeah, I checked it out and saw where it was suppose to get into the mid to high 20's some nights and a couple of days we weren't even going to hit 50's for highs.. they've got 95% +/- of their feathers. A tarp over their "coop within the coop" to help with drafts and depending on how they fared last night as to if I plug in the heat lamp. I've got it secured onto the dog kennel with a wire cage zip tied to the top of it. The chick's can't jump up to it, the others can't get to it to knock it off, so we'll see, hopefully this isn't a experiment that is going to end up with dead chicks.
