Arizona Chickens

I agree 60 degrees is winter.....we already have 38 at 9ish - no fun in my book. I can get my house back together as the last of my company left this am thinking to beat the snow or whatever!! Didn't happen - around Benson was a big accident - jackknifed truck and smaller along the way - lots of ice on road - they were outside Deming last I heard from them this afternoon and finally hitting a bit of sun. We have really had crazy, crazy weather. I do remember about 5/6 years ago it was cold enough to snow in Coolidge on my way to work in Florence. Not fun, plain not fun. 60 degrees, at least, please.

Took this pic just now, 11:30am. I think this is the coldest we've gotten so far this year. We've gotten colder in past years, and this year isn't over yet. It's all foggy right now, everything is covered in frost or yesterdays snow (which only half melted). It's kinda cool to see the big eucalyptus tree all covered in frost. I may have to get some pics before it melts... I understand some of the areas up north like St John and stuff, got well below 0. I saw numbers down to -13.
Notice the low here, which was just before sunrise this morning, at the bottom left:

I even thought of getting out my chick light and putting it on the NN!! Mantra --- They will be fine; they will be fine; they will be fine.........

Mine are ok. They stopped roosting on top of the grow out pens in the run at night, and are now going into the coop. In the day, they all are coming back out into the run. I've been feeding them a bit extra food now to help them pack on a bit to keep warmer.

Yeah, it was 22* when I went out to open the coops and distribute feed. I also had to pour hot water over all of their water containers, including the ones in the chicken cabin, because they were all frozen solid. The chickens are fine in this weather though. They fluff up their feathers and tuck their necks in to hold in the heat.
