Arizona Chickens

I know sucks. I wanted to enter a few in the fall. I’ll have to wait and see what happens wit this.

Is anyone going to vaccinate for the Newcastle disease?

I don't even know if there is a vaccine for this. I heard that they killed all of the flock's (including peoples caged bird's) in the house who lived in that area over in California.

I've spent the last three days outside. I'm composting around the mesquite tree and I transplanted those aloe from a different location today. The girls were having a bath in the former location today. I'm going to test some chuparosa and fairy duster to see if they will live through chickens. If so I'll be planting some along with other things there near the tree. I need a walkway from the patio to the rv gate but I'm undecided about material. Pavers or gravel?

Won't the chicken's try to eat your gravel if you put it there?

Edit: I also just had a thought about the gravel. Could the chicken's walking on it cause brumble foot?

I was thinking pea gravel, smooth rather than rough but I'm leaning toward pavers. I've been working hard to get all the rough gravel out of that yard.

I know it's hard work to do that. I like the paver's idea though. I was out there today measuring and cutting that hardware cloth wire I just bought the other day. I picked today because it wasn't quite as windy out there.

Are you putting that on the run?

No, I'm going to run it 12" up all around the sides on those 2 grow out pen's that I have inside of the run to help better protect the little's from the big's when I move them out there. That way the little's won't be able to poke their head's through the wire on the dog crate's because the gaps in it are too big for my taste.

Oh that's right, you mentioned that the other day. It's a good idea, don't want the babies getting pecked. Are you keeping the silkies with the regular chickens?

No, I will split them up, and hopefully I won't have to do it in the brooder right away. With the regular chick's, I won't be keeping any that hatch out with the fully feathered necks.
