Arizona Chickens

@igorsMistress Look's good! You might have to add some hardware cloth wire on the front if the chick's hop up on the feeder and decide to get curious sticking the heads out between those bar's. That's why I put the hardware cloth wire on the bottom of my wire dog crate. I ran it a foot up, and had to do both of my door's separately so that I could still be able to open and close them. It's working out well.

Yea I put a baby gate in front of while I'm in there for now. That'll be fixed tonight. The dogs are too interested.

:celebrateWe've moved to the coop, in a dog crate that I've put chicken wire around to keep them from escaping, hoping I've closed off the escape routes.. never seen a bunch that wanted to get out as bad as these guys.. had thought about putting them in the old coop but then got to thinking about how semi-easy it was to introduce the first group and they'd finished growing up in the crate in with the big guys.

Hi I'm in Phoenix az metro area we have decided on chickens for eggs and got so much more! We picked them up at a local store. We got 4 of them a barred rock (double stuff), Easter egger (trouble), golden sex links (pabla) and an austorlorp (hen solo). We started them in a small box I made with the kit from the store which consisted of a feeder a waterer and heat lamp. We kept them inside while I built the coop. We have decided they will run free in the backyard daily. I talked with the neighbors already letting them know they may or may not have some visitors everyone's onboard. They dont have dogs. Our chicks are about 5 weeks maybe 6 now. We let them out in the morning for a while then in the evening till they go back into the coop. We dont let them out without our dog Freya, Freya is about a year old and a pitbull. It was rough at first with the dog. We got her a shock collar. We shocked her once then put it on vibrate after that, it took about 3 to 4 days. She doesnt wear the collar anymore, and pays little attention to them. She infact moves from them when they run up on her. The reason we dont let them out without the dog is that we have several ferral cats running arround the neighborhood.

The chicks are great we all love watching them, we feed them crumble mixed with a little scratch and treat them with live mealworms they go crazy we've been hand feeding them. We think it's good because they are so much more friendly now. Below are some photos.

I also wanted to add that I posted twice with questions on this site and got great feedback thank guys!

Excellent! I'll bet that one with the bare back fluffed up just fine later, right? I've had them look like that when still wet, but the fuzz always covers it up nicely. I usually see it when there's a copy of the pea comb gene in there somewhere and one of the hens in Blue's pen does carry a copy. The pea comb gene has some mysterious effect on the naked neck gene for some reason, making them just a little bit more naked then usual. :)
So glad you got such a great assortment! I have two broody hens hatching out the same nest of eggs right now. Just checked them this morning and it looks like they have at least three out and fluffed, a white, a black, and a partridge. There's probably gonna be a few hatching every day for a while as the lighter of the two was adding eggs for a few days before she finally sat hard. I feel like I'm gonna be watching a chicken version of My Two Moms. This is gonna be cool. :love:pop I forgot to bring my phone out with me to take pics of the babies this morning, but will do that later today.

I also got my Turkens from Dunlap Hatchery a couple days ago. They are mostly a bit smaller than my chicks, which I'm finding interesting. But if they turn out to be heavy/meaty birds I'll be ok with that.

The weird thing is they started out with all the eggs IN the nest, them moved them just outside the nest for hatching... not sure what that was all about. I didn't get the chance to clean and dust the coop for mites before they went broody and don't want to do that with them there... that could be it.
