She loves going out to visit the chickens and collect eggs everyday. I don’t know how the last 7 months went by so fast.

She is crawling all over the place and can pull to a stand. I’m sure she will be walking very soon. I can barely keep up with her haha
This is a question I have been working out for the last year. This my bottom line for if you want common breeds get them from a hatchery. I would pay up to $4.00 a chick and have them sexed so I don't have roos to deal with. If you are looking for something rare, like Ayam Cemani (currently $99.00 a chick at Cackle) I would take a chance on ebay eggs. I have come to the conclusion hatching eggs suffer the most by carriers at the end of their travel. If you get eggs off ebay ask that they be held for pick up at the Post Office.Just went and picked up 12 eggs, suppose to be easter eggers, but I am not all that sure they are, there is only 1 egg that looks like it might be a olive green.. Which do you think would be better to order from Ebay or a Hatchery? I'd love to get the different colored eggs.
Yeah, the Post office can cause major issues with chicks, two of the ones I bought at TSC this year, got left sitting in the post office all day and didn't make it. I'd like to have some different colored eggs, blues, greens, etc.. I've got white, off-white, browns from tan to a dark brown.. I've got one easter egger, but she's not laying yet. I might go ahead and take a chance on the Ebay Eggs. Just don't want to spend a fortune only to have them not hatch.
I hadn't thought about where the shipper was located, but that makes sense, they won't get shaken up so bad. Hatching out of my own flock, I've had about a 90% hatch rate, with the exception of this last hatch, I only got a 50%. It's hard to know if it's the post office, the way the seller packed them, your machine or if you actually did something wrong. I gave a guy some eggs for hatching from my flock and he said none of the dozen hatched, so I don't know.
I have decided that I will only pay a "fortune" if they are close enough to drive and pick up. I will not pay exuberant prices for anything shipped. It's heartbreaking to have a full box of chicks arrive dead, or a whole batch of eggs turn out to be duds. I do still ship my eggs when someone requests, but I don't charge much as I feel it's not fair when it's such a gamble.
