Arizona Chickens

My goal is to get rid of chickens not add to my flock right now. I am working on a fully Nn flock other than my Dorking mix girl Cuckoo.

Oh, my daughter and I have already been crying about the prospect of sending Minnie Mouse away! So it's definitely on our mind. The shop is selling out though, so I'll have to drive a bit to their further location if I want to give it to them, but that's an option. I know it's not likely, but I want to at least TRY to live with my roo (probably not more than one though). I already have this one stepping up and it knows its name (so cute!!)... my vibe is it's a roo though :((((( I really hope not!!
have you posted pictures of your suspected Roo's? maybe someone can help you id them. will stink if you have to get rid of them, @BlueBaby is right, the extra Roo's can be hard to rehome, I offer mine for re-homing in some of my groups and then if I don't get any takers, they go to a friend who "uses them for bug control" I already know they end up as dinner, that is ok with me. That's the danger of hatching your own or buying straight run.

I have posted, only response I got was from Tinman0ut regarding breed.. no one else wants to look at my babies 😆 but, from the info I've gathered, by age 3 weeks I should have a good indicator of what they are. So one more week for my Minnie Mouse, and the two new ones are an additional week out. Not as bad as the 6 + month wait for the silkies!

Check out the new white one, definitely the same breed as Minnie, both flew up to perch 🥰

@starri33 Not only just with hatching your own or buying straight run's. There have been people who ordered pullet's only from hatcheries even, but ended up with some roo's that were in the batch.
The silkie bantams are just tough to tell until they mature, about 6-9 months out. Ideally, waiting a few weeks for the D'uccle would be great, but I doubt people want to feed and house and care for them that long to then make $5.

The male silkie's comb should be wider than the females, so part the feather's by the comb's to look. Also the males will grow streamer's on the back of the foofy head feather's.

They don't have any comb just yet. The little grey and partridge are my silkies.

How old do you think they need to be before that starts to show?

You can start checking for that everytime you hold them at any time. That way they will be used to it, and you will be able to know when that width on the comb changes.

When that happens, will the hatchery replace them? the person paid extra to get pullets.
