Arizona Chickens

Removable sheet metal & I have some plexiglass panels on the door that I can put on & take off. The shed is the North side & blocks the wind. I will have to organize the photos I have and make a page about how an AZ coop needs to be. Wood just sucks here! We had termites that needed exterminating here before we moved in.
I just had the termite people out to retreat the garage. Part of the reason I decided not to extend my run to adjoin the house (even with just wire and no wood) was to allow humans to get right up next to the house, just in case they had to treat or examine for termites.

Misters are great in the desert! If I was keeping chickens in the desert I would have a swamp cooler for the coop!
I have a portable swamp cooler, and I have a much smaller one on order because the one I have doesn't aim well enough to hit the roosts. I got it because I don't have real shade yet, just cloth and covers, until the trees get big enough.

Ok, you twisted my arm, I'll take the 10 that you mentioned when you get them, and give you the money plus a bag of chick feed for you. Do you need anything else?
Good, cuz it's hard for me logistically to get meat birds. Hubby can't handle the idea any more of raising chicks for meat (yes he still eats plenty chicken). I'm going to have to send him away for a few days to harvest the male andalusians I'm going to end up with. I think I'll have to have the neighbor's teen age son help catch them cuz they'll be pretty fast by the time they start to crow and grow any tail/hackle/saddle feathers. That'll be around thanksgiving/christmas I'd guess. Unless anyone wants to come up and have a chicken chasing party? They'd get to keep what they catch.

What kind do you have? I was just looking a a portable red one from TSC.

Can you just sneak them off the roosts at night? You are not as far from me as @BlueBaby -- would you like to have a few meat birds next spring, too? I have a good place for a plucking party at my house. you could just come here and help process, take home some meat birds on ice in your cooler?

I've thought about a portable unit but the mister in front of the fan is pretty much the same thing so I can't justify the expense to the man.

I meant it'd be hard to sneak them into the freezer when the time came. But I'd love to come help, I can probably even help catch meat birds!
