I guess I'm staying home. No one showed any interest in what I might bring, so I guess I'll just find some eggs online and save the time and gas.

looks like the great roo swap.

Here's my hatch update. I got 8 out of 12 that candled good at day 18. So i candled the other 4 last night. I didn't see any movement and the air sacs still looked intact so I guess i'm going to wait another day and see what happens. It is day 23.

What would you guys do?

Great pics and congrats on all the new chickies! If I were you, I'd wait just in case as long as the others aren't stinky/oozing etc....


Anyone know the Tucson ordinances for chickens? My sister in law would like to have a couple, but is unsure about the laws. She lives in the city limits.

I found this online from a story that AZStarNet posted. I couldn't find the city ordinance. Hope this helps.

While you may keep up to 24 chickens within city limits, the coop must be 50' from ANY property line (including your own). As well as XX feet (50', I believe) from ANY human habitated structure.

For most properties, this would be smack dead in the center. On the roof, but 50' in the air. (qoute from planning & permits)."

I live in AZ too! My chickens have their run that has little doors for them to have free range of my horse area and pasture. I have a low down tree in their run that basically shades the whole run and also a ground fan that they love to lounge in front of... of course my ducks have kiddie pools

For my my broody ducks and chickens, I give them smaller fans.. I have never needed to mist them or use ice blacks, but I love to watch my duckies have a blast in the hose... Hope this helps and good luck!!

Thanks everyone for the watermelon suggestion. My chickens turned up their nose at most of the veggies I tried but loved the watermelon suggestion, It did the trick. Now they follow me back to the pen when I have to close it up again. though they like the earth bottom of the pen, they love to roam the yard.

I see them fly more now I guess I will have to clip flight feathers soon. Do I use any type of scissors or do I need something special. I think I finally have enough shade and water for them. Have worked with the Henhut awhile. I do like that it is portable but the needed shade was a problem due to the fiberglass sides. Got a thermometer and covered it with two to three layers of green shade material. Then I set the sprinkler system to come on 3 times a day for a few minutes.

From those guidelines though, I don't think she could "legally" have a coop/run. Her lot isn't too large, but she does live on a corner, so we'll see. I 'll pass along the info to her.

Does any of you guys know where I can go and buy feed in bulk. I do not want anything to do with Arizona Feeds and that is the only thing I know I can buy in bulk. This 15 dollar a bag crap is getting quite old when you go through 2 - 50lb bags a day. I am in the Phoenix area. Don't want to have to drive clear to Yuma or the New Mexico border but I do understand that I might have to make a long trip. If anyone has some info for me it would be greatly appreciated. I did not see a point in posting a separate thread for this since most of the local people are right here.

I have a source for big giant canvas bags and I am willing to go to a mill or something and fill them or whatever as long as it is good quality feed and not floor sweepings and garbage. I just need to save some money here before I have to start actually living in the coops.
