Arizona Chickens

Her face started changing last week.. but the hiding has started the last few days. Really excited. I need to get their roost setup. I cut a tree branch and sanitized it w peroxide. I just need some brackets to attach it w in the coop. I'll add a small basket in there, and maybe attach a nestbox to the area under the coop. The interior coop door is never closed, but i do cover the top of the run and the exterior coop door with a towel to make it dark for them, since i have a light or tv on in the evening. I'm excited!!

Oh, and Nala, the partridge silkie got spooked by outside birds today and was bok bokking super loud like a big giant chicken!! She does NOT have a bantam voice!

She could be getting ready to lay. I found a new small egg out there today. It was layed up on top of the roosting board. I have been waiting for the NN pullet that has the smaller bowtie to start laying, and her comb had finally started loosing that grey color and turned red. Tonight as I was locking up the coop, I seen Roger breeding her.

How exciting!!! Congrats on your egg! How old is she now? I wonder how tiny their first eggs will be! I might blow out the egg white/ yolk and keep the egg 🥰🥚

So tonight, after they all went inside to sleep, she came back out and was doing a high pitch baby chirp.. shes the only one that seems to actually like being held, i think she wanted back out w me. Not sure what was up with the chirping though, she's never done it before.

She's 6 month's old, so she was due to start. The size of a first egg depend's on the breed. Mine are not bantam's.

Most pullet's have either a rooster or an older hen to show them a good place to lay an egg at. Since you don't seem to have neither, you are the one. She's looking to you.

Ill put a basket inside the coop for her.. i already bought a nest box to assemble.. they ALWAYS want out, but since shes hanging out alone, maybe ill get some straw for her to start getting used to and set it up in a corner of the room. They all ended up not using the covered litter box that i worked so hard to make the perfect dust bath with 🤣 maybe she would like that too.

Sounds like Bigfoot hit the lottery with all those Silver Grey girlfriends you got for him! I can hear the pitter-patter of the little feet now.:jumpy

Yes, but some of those girl's may end up two-timing Bigfoot. I do have a Silver Grey Dorking boy in there with those 6 girl's right now, so I should be able to make the pure one's too.

It will be interesting to see how well they do in PHX heat.

So far those chick's seem to be doing ok out there. The lady that I got them from said that she had them in a container in a shed that had a temp of 105-F. to get them used to the heat, but there have been day's already since I've had them that the temp has been an average of 115-F. I have been topping the water bowls off with cold water several times a day.

This is the last week that I have to do the animal's next door, as she will be back home on the 29th. But then I will have to help my DH after his back operation on the 1st. He will be coming back home in a back brace that he will have to wear for awhile, and not allowed to lift anything over like a gallon jug of water.
