Arizona Chickens

Awwww, lead me not into temptation, at least until the coop is ready! ;)

I have a man who does landscaping and gravel work coming to look at the land next to the coop-to-be, because the area needs to be leveled so a decent sized run will fit out there. There's a dropoff right now. I'll have to fence around an apple tree to keep the hawk out.

After watching chicken hatching videos, I learned I've been turning the eggs wrong. I was only giving them about 1/4 to 1/3 turn, and it's supposed to be 1/2 turn. Please be OK, little chickies!

Is anyone here have chicken in the city? Does your neighbor complains?
You need to check your city's requirements, every city is different, including how close your coop can be to the neighbors and numbers.. of course no roosters. I wouldn't complain unless you put them next to my bedroom window and leave crap piles... oh wait, i already have a neighbor that does that! 🤣

Also offering a half dozen eggs to neighbors as a goodwill gesture from time to time can help neighbors be more okay with chickens (after checking city requirements and all the other great suggestions above). You might pick a more quiet, less flighty breed (noting there are always exceptions to the general breed tendencies) to keep if you have close/nosy neighbors.

This so funny to me.. its exactly why I picked the silkies first, and then had my surprise D'Uccles.. well one of my silkies is SOOOOO FREAKING LOUD!! I mean full bawk bawk Screams that you can hear outside (from inside the house). The other silkie does the cute little tiny muffled talking.. unless she jumps high enough to think she is flying! Definitely an individual personality deal!

Well now that the girls are bigger, they make more of a mess when they dust bathe in their expanded pellets.. More dust going airborne. It isn't super horrible, but it would be nice if it wasn't there at all, so I think I am going to move forward with making new trays that I will add sand to. I already have the skirt to catch anything flying out, and I can add an industrial rug under the coop as a backup (I don't want to scratch my floors up with the sand). It will be a project though! But I think that will be a better/easier/cleaner long term solution.
