Arizona Chickens

I've thought seriously about raising rabbits but when I see how many wild rabbits there are here in my open field hunted by owls/hawks/coyote/etc. I hear my mom words of warning in my head and also think of the danger if those wild rabbits have disease or parasites how would I ever keep the domestic rabbits clean of disease. So I stick to chickens so far. I might get pigs next but need to really work on hardening old pig enclosure to coyote (and javelina, I guess- research required- I don't think they are really pigs but don't know if disease can jump from javelina to pig).
I couldn’t do pigs for anything but pets. I had one as a pet and they are like dogs. Fortunately we don’t have much in the way of wild buns here. There are enough predators around that they don’t last long and I’ve seen only one in the fifteen years we’ve been here. My buns are indoor only and are for poop for the garden, not food.

I couldn't keep a pig except as a pet, either. Far too much like dogs. I like them. Wouldn't mind having a pair some day.

Heard that rooster again this morning when I was working in the backyard, heh heh. He's somewhere east of us, maybe a few blocks over. Of course I'm not certain it's the same rooster I've heard before but I like to think it is and the neighbors are tolerant of him (roosters technically aren't allowed here).

Mine were holding a crowing duo earlier. The 3rd boy hasn't joined in with that yet.

We had a really cool rooster roaming around our neighborhood, we are allowed to have them. Someone posted up “lost chicken” who do you think jumped on a free chicken! She sent me a photo and he was beautiful, like one you would see in the wild (can’t recall the breed) I asked her if she knew where he slept. I guess he moves around and that’s all I know.

Good afternoon AZ. I am happy to see garlic sprouting in the garden! I planted a couple of window boxes with grass seed for the bunnies too and all my herbs are doing great! Hoping we actually get rain from this storm coming in. The clouds are piling up outside! Enjoy your afternoon all.
