Arizona Chickens

Thought you guys might like to see some Prescott snow. I was updating the Air BnB listing now that the snow is mostly gone! We were not renting it during the snow disaster, we were too busy digging!☃️
that's a very beautiful picture! wise of you not to show the peak of the snow, you probably got two feet? I got just 8+ inches in Spring Valley.

That's awful--the notice is dated 2/18, the eggs were already set...
McMurray Hatchery had a link in the email to contact Fed legislators. If you want to copy or change my email to my senators please feel free--- here's what I just sent to Kelly and Sinema-- (I might try to find another thread to crosspost this on also for those in other states.)

You need to make sure the USPS can support the hatcheries shipping poultry. We were just informed that the USPS has an embargo on shipping live animals and it is not due to the weather (as a previous week embargo was said to be). This is and embargo due to a BACKLOG of packages!

Do you realize that the eggs are set in the incubators at least 3 weeks before the intended ship date and that the chicks can survive the mail for a 3 day period while they live on the egg yolk nutrition prior to hatch. An announcement that a BACKLOG of packages takes priority over LIVE chicks means probable death of thousands of chicks since these chicks cannot be delivered in that 3-day window of time set 3 weeks prior to this announcement.

Many people do not believe the government is supporting their lives or livlihoods - this prioritizing BACKLOG of packages over LIVE packages proves it. People ordering chicks are trying to take responsibility for their food and teach their kids something in a time when government services may not be relied on to do so. DO SOMETHING to support our way of life in Arizona.

Yes I was just thinking of plugging my incubator into my computer UPS (since the power plug seems to be just like a laptop power supply). UPS is another good prep to consider especially if you can't afford a generator. At least you can use an UPS for charging your cell phone or other small electronics for a short time. They also have smaller generators that RV or vanlife nomads use - those might be more affordable (not sure) than when I was buying our generator.
What I like about the UPS is that it beeps really loud when the power goes out so that I can take care of things before it is discharged. It is not big enough to run an incubator but it can run my little 7 watt heater for Dylan the parrot. There are some nice batteries made to charge from solar panels. They are under "solar generators" on an Amazon search which i do not think is a good description.

Too busy digging to take that photo . . . every time the show plow came by, another wall of slush to shovel. Broke the snow shovel. Hubby is going to get a cortisone shot Monday. We hired a bunch of guys to finish when the snow was over.
