Arizona Chickens

Anybody pickle eggs? Do you like them? I've never eaten them before so I don't know if I want to do it. I'm over run with eggs so might make them anyway just to find out how they are. They don't actually need refrigerated - if your comfortable with that.
I pickled a batch of the little Barred Holland eggs, 8 fit in a pint, 12 in a quart. The egg in the center front is a Safeway egg, Barred Holland on each side, and in the pint jar. I use a bread and butter pickle recipe, it uses some sugar and vinegar, I have kept them on the counter a month just fine. I put them in the frig for the people who will be getting them. Sometimes I just put boiled eggs in the hot mix juice after the pickled hot veggies are gone, I like them spicy but nobody else does.

Maybe it is because I lived in Palm Desert, right on the San Andreas fault, but I always have several gallon jugs of water in my pantry. Costco rice, canned tuna and chicken along with a freezer of Barred Hollands, we do not have to go to the store and fight the UN-prepared folks for the last crumb -- or paper towel, since that last in March when people bought all the toilet paper we stock those too! I use a UPS for my computer that kept the cable modem going for 6 hours when we had a power outage last year. I would get a bigger back up if I had an incubator full of eggs, or was brooding chicks.

Exactly, and youd think at worse case, people would remember the covid rush and.... wait for it.. be prepared. But most people just don't think.. period.. and non-thinkers beget more non-thinkers.. generation after generation. fine by me.. let them trample each other 😂

I'm not sure if I'll hatch-along or just wait for when I think the time is right as eggs get bigger. But I will follow the thread for sure. So much to learn - best way is learn by doing - and having experts for company on that thread!

I most likely won't be joining in on that one, but I am planning on setting a few this Saturday with Louie over the hen's. This will most likely be the last hatch from out of Louie, before I go on with the Naked Neck Aloha project. Louie can't be used in it.

If you like them spicy, maybe you could look for one of those Cajun style pickled egg's recipe's. I've had them as in the quail egg's before, but you could probably use other egg's for it also.

Here's some you could check out:

Yes I was just thinking of plugging my incubator into my computer UPS (since the power plug seems to be just like a laptop power supply). UPS is another good prep to consider especially if you can't afford a generator. At least you can use an UPS for charging your cell phone or other small electronics for a short time. They also have smaller generators that RV or vanlife nomads use - those might be more affordable (not sure) than when I was buying our generator.
