Arizona Chickens

Hey everyone!
I'm pretty sure two of my chickens are roosters.... both are crowing every morning. Sadly I can't keep them, is there anyone wanting to grab them? They are the black and white easter eggers.

I'm not working with that breed. Good luck in re-homing them.

Your Cuckoo Leghorns sound great! Leghorn boys usually give me very good reason to process them ASAP. Nice Leghorns would be a good thing to propagate. Even nice cockerels are almost impossible to give away. As difficult as it might be, you can probably tell pretty early and cull them painlessly.

I'm thinking the same thing--pass his genes on to the next generation. I heard all sorts of bad things about leghorn roosters. He forgot to read the rule book. Or maybe it's because he had a lot of handling when he was young. When I was out at the coop a few minutes ago I was stroking his feathers. He seems to like that. The girls don't. He sounded the alarm the night of the fire, and does a nice job of guarding his girls against anything flapping on the clothesline. He's an enjoyable character. Anybody here interested in one of his sons in the future?

You could try, and watch to see how they handle it. If you see there's still a problem, you could separate the 2 Andalusian's, as there are only 2 of those.
I tried it for a while before dusk. The pullets are very unnerved. More must've happened yesterday morning than I thought. The higher andalusian just looked at them with a pecking gesture and they ran. I may try again in a week. I hate how mean these andalusians have been. I thought I was going to have my first ever successful integration. Going so well until yesterday.

**ETA actually second successful.... a few years ago I integrated NN straight run into 6 brown leghorn hens. actually the NN's took over the place and the leghorns peacefully went along with it.

Earlier this morning I rushed out to the pen because I was hearing way too much egg song and the pullets looked like they might be seeing a predator. One black pullet and the injured barred pullet were singing! They have a make shift nest box (a large planter) and oyster shells now. I wanted to keep my one spare crate free.... and am strongly leaning toward culling "darkie", the andalusian who joined the attack. That leaves the gray, meaker andalusian to either blend in with the pullets, pine away (and be mercifully culled) or decide to be mean.

I was seriously tempted to get Andalusians when I was ordering the hatchery birds. I got the brown leghorns instead, because I have had them before and I know what good layers they are. An Andalusian Cock with my Barred Hollands would make a nice sex-link that lays white eggs -- here is one with Barred Rock:

So the cacophony of chaos was just about to start.. chickens and dogs in ready position.. i remembered reading about sitar music (Indian string music) calming chickens.. so i tried it out. Not a peep!! In fact they all laid down nicely together and just looked really relaxed! Which is also wonderful, because i have a conference call i need to start 🤣
I might buy an echo device for next to their coop, remotely start it or put it on a daily timer.

Good choice with the leghorns! A few years ago I ordered about 12 each brown leghorns and andalusians from privetts. I sold the andalusians because they were roosting on the misting system and the neighbors barb wire fence. The then-laying brown leghorns were very nice and even got pushed around a bit by the younger birds . These andalusians from hoover's aren't as prone to flying but are turning out quite mean to the younger birds, who don't seem to realize they're bigger than the remaining andalusian.

I think May is better, too. But, I had to try these Bad Boyz Eggs! I might have some "Bad Boyz the Next Generation" to pluck in about 12 weeks.:barnie How is your neighbor's plucker?:fl
Not sure about the neighbors plucker yet I haven't caught them outside to flag them down in all the snow/sleet/rain/fog. All their animal chores are usually behind their house in an outbuilding I can't see. I have to literally run a five hundred yard dash when I see them!

Better weather and preps for planting season coming up so everyone should be outside more soon. I'm not even there today had to run to Phx for work.
