Arizona Chickens

Ok figured out the egg dilemma.. it is Elsa eating her egg, but her eggshell is so super soft! However, the D'uccles eggs are so hard, i have to hit them several times to even open them. That has me thinking the food is fine.

Is this just because she is a new layer? This was egg #4 that broke. There is calcium available along with fortified grit and the feather fixer feed has higher protein and calcium.. so I'm at a loss.

I knew you couldn't hold out on the hatching itch! :gigGood luck!

It just got worse. All three of them laid eggs this morning, two regular sized and a small one. The two normal sized ones are now in the incubator. My chicken math for today: out of a total of 10 eggs, figure on about 2/3 hatching, and of that, half girls, so hopefully I'll get those 3-4 girls.

But half of those girls may not make it.. so you really need 20 eggs!! Plus friends, because some might get lonely 😔

Sometimes new layers have not gotten the kinks worked out of their systems yet.
