I have the hanging veggie basket, they are terrified of it.. she plays the xylophone.. but we get the eggs immediately, but she is grabbing it in that split second! If it doesn't stop soon, ill improvise a rollout nest box. Already have a mini paint tray idea with a cover over the back.Try to pick them up right away. I sometimes give distracting high protein snack/treats. Like a steak bone with some meat that they can peck off. Something hanging, like a cabbage swinging. I do not know what would work in the house, though! They sell plaster blocks for pet parrots, calcium with treats embedded, maybe something like that. Boredom causes pecking. A dark nest box, that they can't see the egg very well inside.
It is not easy to break the egg eating habit if they get used to it. That is why people pay big bucks for roll-out nest boxes!

THAT is what im afraid of, she already has them running around with her and the shell. I separated her into the brooder to make sure it was her doing the breaking. I added a big pile of calcium for her today, in with her food bowl, and she ate it up. Hopefully that fixes the soft shell issue.. and maybe the eating.Problem is if she teaches the others to do it. Sounds like the roll out tray is a good plan.I have the hanging veggie basket, they are terrified of it.. she plays the xylophone.. but we get the eggs immediately, but she is grabbing it in that split second! I will be busy with these ducklings for a while!Yesterday I had 12 NN hatching egg's in my incubator, and now today there are 22 in there. I'll be having another split hatch here again. @Parront There's more of those green and tan egg's in there.![]()
Roger is standin' tall & proud! I think it would be fun to breed him back to his daughters I have over here. The way I look at it our flocks are 1 flock. The Lazy River deconstruction crew at work (yes the water is a mess)... and on their snack break with Roger on the lookout... with someone trying to play the xylophone in the background View attachment 2580470
