Arizona Chickens

My yard is in full bloom, so i have had lots of bees and butterflies. I have seen wasps, but not as many as usual. Maybe they are waiting for the heat to start up!

Are you guys getting your rain? It has only been light drizzle here in the west valley.
It’s been nice and cloudy all day, there’s a 90% chance it’ll rain here in about an hour or so.

We’ve been getting some huge flies sneaking into the house whenever a door is left open and there’s been a lot of mosquitos hanging around lately. It’s safe to say I’d prefer butterflies over the flies and mosquitos :)

If I have anything that will eat ants- they are a keeper here - so many anthills in the field that I have yet to plant with anything. Not that anything grew last year. Raining here now so I have been sprinkling clover and pasture seed everywhere so maybe something besides foxtails, goatheads & thistles will grow this year.
Chickens will eat those weeds as they sprout. They will also eat the clover as it sprouts!

We finally got our weeds up, so im spreading the miniclover tomorrow.. excited. I was looking at other clover varieties.. not sure which ones stay put. I don't want it spreading outside my designated area. The miniclover uses roots vs flowering seeds.. not sure of the others.

Well, my flock now has one of those goat trough feeder's that hook's over the fence. I bought 2 of them from TSC, but only hung one of them over my horse panel railing that makes up my chicken run. Had to place a bit of wood boarding behind it to make it a tighter fit over the railing, as I still want to be able to take it off and clean it if necessary. I didn't put the metal top thing on it though. This is the one here:

I need to get something like that. I tried one of those metal feeders with the holes in it, but they hit their floppy combs on it when they ate and left little blood splats on it, so now they're using a dog dish. They don't mind, but do tend to poop in it. At least they're not injuring themselves.

Day 3 of incubation, and the top parts of 9 of the 10 eggs were dark when I candled them a few minutes ago. Counting those chickens before they're hatched, again.

I got Roger to eat bread out of my hand yesterday! Bread was the key - thank you all for the discussion on that ( especially @BlueBaby & @Parront ). I know Bluebaby must have told me before that she fed them bread when little, sometimes I forget and need reminders.

Up till now I was trying to offer him sunflower seeds and he never even came close to eating those out of my hand. And he eats so gently out of my hand - not like the hens who hit my fingers so hard.
