Arizona Chickens

We have them outside full time now. It never goes below 65 at night currently. They are very happy. Getting used to human interaction and love to roll in the dirt.

We put them up in the coop at night and let them out in the morning. They are getting into routine and all go in before we head out to put them in for the night.
They sound like they are in chicken Heaven! I just hose off the concrete patio with the hose if it gets chicken poop on it, which happens! If it is dry, I use a push broom and save the water. They will like as much dirt and grass as you can give them!

Excellent, thank you! Learning something new. I have Bragg's brand ACV in the house and add it to the water I drink occasionally--was drinking some just before reading this. Gotta keep those new palace inhabitants to be in tip top shape, too. :)

Yes, Bragg's is the one. They will benefit from it also.

This morning the chick's seemed to be more interested in starting to eat. They have dry chick feed to peck at, and I made some of it up as a wet feed for them in a peanut butter jar lid for now. There's 4 little NN's in there now, as I rehomed the 2 fully feathered neck chick's. There's still more egg's that didn't hatch out yet, but might sometime today?

River sand? Dustbath sand--

I need to make a dustbath for our new place (been meaning to do this for a few months). I don't recall what type I bought at the old place.

Where do you get the sand and what type?

I can't find river sand, and the washed general purpose sand says it has crystalline silica in it--is that a problem?
Lowe's has play sand, but wouldn't that compact in the birds' crops?

Today is supposed to be the day! Great you could find a place for the 2 with feathered necks.

Play sand would be just fine, but my birds just dust bathe in the dirt in the yard. I had some decomposed granite delivered for a flagstone patio, and have lots left, they like that too. Sand from the creek is free here. We go to the fire station and get free sand bags of sand for the monsoon season. Buying sand in AZ is probably not necessary! ;)
