Arizona Chickens

Haha yes, most of the threads I’ve been reading are worried about the cold, while I’m wondering if they’ll cook with the heat! :lau I waited quite a long time before I took my previous flock outside so it was a bit cooler when they moved, but they really made a mess in our living room which I don’t want a repeat of! We’ll have to place the smaller coop close to the bigger coop so they can start getting used to seeing each-other but not be able to peck or cause injuries. I’m hoping for a smooth transition:fl
Last year I put mine March 31 chicks outside in Mesa around 3-4 weeks old in a chicken tractor attached to a plastic dog house that I had a eco glow heater plate that they could still get under if they were cold at nite.

Then I had another batch and a half (from Parront) that I started putting outside AT NITE when it was "cooler" (80 or 90 degrees) to get them used to the heat at first, then after a couple weeks they stayed out during day - with misters on timer going off 10 min every other hour, 32 oz ice cubes and lots of shadecloth and partly under orange trees for heavier shade.

By the July heatwave I ended up moving everyone to Chino Valley because I wanted them to survive with less work on my part. And I had too many to keep in my backyard in Mesa anyway - and rooster started crowing.

I agree. They abused an "emergency" to do away with the public comment period, from what I gather. And many other Arizona towns apparently got away with doing likewise. This regulation may deal with MJ, but soon enough they'll use this as a precedent for banning hatching of birds in a primary room--the problem is that the govt granted itself control to even look inside your house!
The government is not constitutionally tasked with 99% of the things they legislate. Most of "We the people" don't even know what's in the constitution or the amendments, let alone whatever pork packed laws they enact or rules they hand down by fiat. You only hear about the most sensational laws because we have jokers and storytellers posing as journalists. Give any of them an inch and they will take 10,000 miles because they are playing with someone else's money.

EDIT-- Also be aware that the government is not the real authority in many cases. The Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) is the insurance company who either will/will not write you a policy. They lobby the government and get the laws passed because they are really richer than banks. Although they don't need the laws they already make the rules. ---

And if you didn't miss a spot, you don't know if something might be resistant to what you're spraying. Good choice!
The reason I chose the metal cage I have. NO BUGS. If I get bugs, I plan to burn the roost board, move the coop to fresh ground, problem solved. The nest box, same. It was free, made from an old headboard of a twin bed. Burn it, or dumpster it, a new one is easy to make in an hour.

That's why the area that I live in doesn't want to be incorporated, although someday I imagine that they will force the issue as more people move in. Everyone out here is on an average of 3 1/2 acres, and the land developer's would love to get thier hand's on it, and with more resident's would come more tax revenue.

I have always moved to the outskirts.. far enough from crowd, close enough for convenience.. but it only ever lasts a few years. I loved the farmland on the west valley.. But as of this year i think all but a few small parcels have been sold off. It is the way of the world, unfortunately.

This place where we are was country until the city of Prescott annexed it in the 50's. Still large lots, still old farts with chickens holding out!
