You know your kids are older when the parents are waiting for the kids to wake up. I'm gonna throw some cinnamon rolls in the oven, maybe the smell will wake them up. Or if not, their dad will roll them out of their beds so we can open presents.
Merry Christmas to all!!!! I hope your day has been very blessed.
My kids let us sleep in until 4:55 this morning. I was up pretty late assembling a giant doll house and my almost 2 year old cried until I brought her to bed with me, where she squirmed and helicoptered all night. Once I get the rib roast in the oven, I may take a little nap.
We have mountain lions, bob cats, and everything else here...even cows!
I am more than a little annoyed with the cows coming in the yard and the javelinas trying to get in our coop after the feed, but the mountain lions scare me. We have only seen one here and it was already dead. It had even been skinned, so I think it must have been a human. I only let the kids out with the big dogs. I hope the mountain lion would go after the dog first, as awful as that sounds. Of course, the intruder we have most often are illegals here in Rio Rico, and I hope the dogs will keep the kids safe from them, too.
5pinkarrows - I could not agree more with the big dog. And it does not sound horrible. The dog's job is to protect the kids. I know that your hope is that the dog will come out on top in any confrontation, but the kids come first. I dont have kids but have been really thinking about getting a larger breed for the property I am on. I have the 2 Aussie mixes and they do a great job of keeping the coyotes from coming in when they are out, but I swallowed my heart when they went after the Javelina. Fortunately the dogs were smart enough to harass and then back off to allow them an exit, but I know there must not have been any young nearby, or they would have stood their ground more.
A lady at our church lost an Aussie to a mountain lion. It's sad, but it is better than losing a human. I never want anything to happen to my dogs. If something happened to my kids, I don't know how I would go on. We have 3 big dogs. The best protector is an Aussie/German Shepherd mix. She's 81lbs, so I know she would at least keep a mountain lion busy a while. One dog is a retired Belgian Malinois. He was a narcotics dog on the border here, and he is waaaay too goofy to offer much protection. He's about 100lbs and looks scary, but animals don't care about that. They know he is a big baby. Our little dog is a mutt and weighs 56lbs. She loves people and doesn't offer much protection there, but she is the best javelina chaser EVER! She has cancer in one leg, but she still does a great job defending her territory on 3 legs. Dogs are wonderful to have around, and almost worth all the hair that I have to clean up.
Just one more week til the New Year's babies, huh? I hope to participate next year. This year I am looking forward to all the pictures!
