He could be a Colored Dorking, Sandhill carries those, too. It would be easy to mix those chicks up. This is from their web page:

Colored Dorking​

Colored Dorking - Slightly variable in color. Male’s neck and saddle feathers can be silvery to golden straw colored. The remaining feathers are basically black with light straw lacing. Females will vary from silvery to golden straw with varying chest colors. Color variations occur within this variety. They have a single comb with six points.

I think that you are right in your assessment.

In addition to the color variations within the colored dorking, do you think that the genetics for the silver/golden color is hidden/recessive in the red dorking? maybe you should do a trial....

I think that they are different chicken colors, I know that if you breed a silver hen and a red male, you get sex-links where the boys get the silver from their mom, girls get the red from the dad. That is something I am looking to see in the NN pullet from the "crossing red rangers" thread. She is probably carrying red, and so it might not work with her, but the other silvers I have are those white Rocks. Those would be good meat birds from the boys and good layers for the girls. Since the rocks lay brown eggs, it would be easy to tell who is who in the nest box.
The Red Dorking cockerel would also make black sex-links with the barred hollands. But I would not want the Hollands for that, I have hopes for some prue Barred Holland chicks. I am getting pretty small eggs from them still. Lots of them -- just pretty small.

White splashing wouldn't show up in the first generation. They would hide it. It could show up in the second generation though, if 2 that are hiding it are bred together.

You could breed nice NN Alohas with five toes.

They've gone way too far. As it is the Super Bowl halftime entertainment has been turned into smut. Glad I missed it this year.

The power finally came back on last night around 9 pm. Fortunately, I had power supplies that were full and could keep the phone and computer going.

Thanks! Good ole' Royal Albert, eh? I use several of mine everyday (several because I keep putting my coffee down to go do something and forget where I left it!).

p.s. I left a forgotten cup in the flowerbed, where a thorny grass burr fell in. When I threw down the last cold swallow, it lodged in my throat and costs me two days of agony and $12,000 for surgery to get it out!!! Now I don't finish off forgotten cups, no matter how pretty!

How awful! I did that once and there was big dead spider in the cup that ended up in my mouth. I spat it out. Not worth it.

I have heard of people using a large "Thermocare" wrap for their chicks. I might make hot water bottles if I had young chicks like yours that would get chilled in a long outage.
