Arizona Chickens

Hey AZ Peeps.

Does anybody know where Cal Ranch gets their chicks? I'm up in the White Mountains (Show Low/Pinetop-Lakeside) and when I asked the store personnel, no one seemed to know. Or they thought they weren't supposed to discuss it...I dunno.

I'll get them online before I'll go to the TSC here. Not a fan of Hoover's.

Hope your weekend was luvelly!

I googled to find out for you. They get them from Hoover's as stated on their blog here on this page (scroll down and you will see).

Last several times I was there (prescott store) they got them from Hoover's. Look for breeds that'll give it away, like Midnight Majesty Maran for Hoover's, production blue would be privetts (or others) etc.

You must have special Google skills! I swear I did search online--I try never to ask until I try to find an answer myself, but I got bupkes when I searched.

But thank you! I guess I'll be ordering online.

On a side note: did y'all know that starting this year, Privett's minimum shipping is 15 chicks? I had called to ask a separate question, and saw some odd conflicting info on their site, so asked about that too. She said they just started it this year. So many people have said they would order from Privett, except for that 25 minimum thing.

Have a fabulous week, AZ Peeps! (We may get rain tonight--it's lookin' real growly out there.)

Your welcome!

I'm in the middle of a small test hatch of chick's in my new incubator, and with having rooster's here, I didn't have to look for chick's. I am however thinking about some of those Bielefelder's though.

We did get rain last night. But it was all sound and fury, signifying only 1/16" of the wet stuff. Turned off the power three times, which really jacks up trying to watch a movie. I have learned not to bother re-setting the clocks here til it's well and truly DONE with that part. Hmph. But we're glad for the rains--we've had lots this summer, and as it's my second summer on the mountain, I'm not nearly as fire-paranoid as I was last summer.

Wow, what a storm. I hope you all and your flock, runs are ok? It is on its way again this evening. Stay safe flock friends. As always photo for fun.

The power can go out over here sometimes for no apparent reason, other than them not updating old equipment. One day it was sunny and very little breeze, and it went out for about an hour. I'm used to it, but I don't like it when I'm trying to do a hatch, so I have learned to keep a towel handy that I can throw over the incubator to help keep heat in, and a flashlight handy near the chairs that I sit in.
