A few years back there was another member that was a part of this thread that lived in Tucson that had mixed her Bielfelder's with her Naked Neck's. It made for a good sized table bird that was easier to cull. They layed egg's well, and the boy's were big. With the Bielefelder's you can tell the sex of them at day old's, and that is a good thing too. It's said that those Bielefelder boy's average 10 pound's.I have read that Bielefelders are heat sensitive. I am not sure, heat hardy breeds such as welsummers were used to create them. I don't think they could be less heat hardy than the columbian wyandottes that I was sold by mistake at Tractor Supply. I use misters in the heat of the summer and they have done alright. I wanted them and am going to give them a try. I know Maricopa is hotter than Safford. My offer stands if you want it.
I have entertained myself for many years thinking about hot weather meat crosses. Most of which include half or quarter NN. I still think about it. For me it can never happen. My wife and daughter think every animal we have is a pet and can't be killer or eaten. I have to live vicariously though others like the meat grower forums here. If you get Bielefelters from me you will have to feed my curiosity and tell me how they and their crosses work out for you.A few years back there was another member that was a part of this thread that lived in Tucson that had mixed her Bielfelder's with her Naked Neck's. I'm sure that we can work something out later with them. Do you have any Naked Neck's over there yet?I have entertained myself for many years thinking about hot weather meat crosses. I have had NNs in the past and I really like them. I keep thinking about getting them again, but have been trying other breeds. Right now my only roo is a bow tie NN. He was given to me as a baby. I don't know what else he has in him. A dark blue with brassy saddle feathers. I like him, he is a good protector of his hens. He only came at me once, but quickly learned his lesson. Been docile ever since.I'm sure that we can work something out later with them. Do you have any Naked Neck's over there yet?
I just hatched 3 little Naked Neck's from my flock on the 14th. I was only running a small hatch to test out my new incubator.I have had NNs in the past and I really like them. If you're handy with a computer, you can design and print your own, like these I made using Pages on a Mac: Then you have whatever wording you want. Just cut them out and stick glue them on.Anyone know where I can get some egg carton label's that say "Nest Run Egg's" at? Most that are available say "Fresh Egg's" or "Free Range Egg's". I noticed that the AZ. state law say's that if you are not registered and have a license to sell ton's of egg's, that your's must say "Nest Run Egg's", because they haven't been graded.
