Arizona Chickens

Poor chickiducks! I am HATING this rain. Every time I hear it blow against the window, I shiver. I know it doesn't change the temp in the house, so I don't know why this happens. This weather is icky and I can't wait for it to be over. Total wimp over here. At least I don't have to worry about flooding. We are smack dab in the mountains and up on a hill. The back yard drops off super steep and so does the front. Big trucks don't even like to attempt my driveway. But, it would take a flood of Noah's time to bother us.

All of our chickens survived last night. YAY!! Hopefully that was as cold as it will get this year. I think it got down to 22* here. 4 of our guys are only about 14 weeks, but they did fine.

WOOT internet is back up!! Everytime it rains our Qwest goes out. Next week we are switching to bluewire....maybe it will do better.

Chickies did well through the night. Looks like they have already established a new pecking order. Outside in the run they were even sharing the food dish. In the coop, the pullets have to eat out of a different one than the top dog Maran. Rooster seems to like everyone. Pullets are only 14 weeks so tossing them all together was a gamble. This morning when I woke up to snow covered ground and temps of 22, I was glad I did though. Those poor big guys would have had a miserable night in the makeshift coop.

Been snowing on and off since last night here. Looks more like hail now. I hope the power stays up for you people with incubators going. No problems here yet.

I am ordering my brinsea 20 today!! last day of the sale I think.

I lost 4. But it wasn't rain or cold that killed them. I think they got smooshed. I put my little goat kids in there at night and I think the goats laid on them. I'm getting a few more heat lamps so I won't have to play musical goats anymore.

The lady we got all the quail from showed us how to kill them and its much easier than a chicken. I also don't interact with them because I know they are going to die. I will hatch out replacements and well eat those eggs too. I've never eaten quail before. I've had dove before and didn't care for all the bb's. Lol.

AzBootsie, nice pics...your pullets are the same size as mine. Glad they all came through well.

Sorry for the chick losses overnight of others here.

Today was a funeral day, and I'm glad it started snowing on the way home from the service. They would have enjoyed that, so I stood outside and enjoyed it for the both of us. They passed way too young on christmas eve.

The wind was blowing so hard when I was walking alone from the parking lot to the funeral service room that it literally blew me over. Because of walking alone there wasn't anyone to catch my fall, lol. My first thought then was that I was already cold to the bone from their passing, then my next thought was how they would have laughed if they'd seen me blown over by the wind.

It snows at least once a year here, usually a couple of times, well, at least it has in the close to 50 years I've lived here.

The pullets weathered last night very well, and the rabbit barn is being kept warm, just enough to take the major chill off. Hoping all goes well tonight for everyone.
