Sorry that happened, but glad that the cockerel seems to be ok. Did the dog break any of the skin?

I don't think so - he was in shock and I carried him around doing coop shut ups yesterday. He was kind of limp so I didn't know if he had an unseen neck injury - I didn't find any blood. He kinda perked up slightly when I put him in the crate last nite - he was walking and not wanting to be held at all this morning. He's in the bottom of the mini-coop today with food/vitamin water so he can see the others in the chicken tractor but won't get picked on if he's not up to it.

A friend who lives near Vernon was telling me she got snow, and the wind ripped the siding off her greenhouse, too. She said it ruined her tomatoes and some plants were laying partially on their sides.

I bought a book on building greenhouses, planning on that for a new project after the coops are done. If anyone has any tips on wind-proofing them, please share!

Its supposed to be in the 60's and we are planning to go boating for last time in season. No swimming though.

A friend who lives near Vernon was telling me she got snow, and the wind ripped the siding off her greenhouse, too. She said it ruined her tomatoes and some plants were laying partially on their sides.

I bought a book on building greenhouses, planning on that for a new project after the coops are done. If anyone has any tips on wind-proofing them, please share!

That's why I like dome greenhouses. Normally wind does not effect them at all. BUT, all it takes is one small tear in the plastic and the wind will make its way inside and rip the plastic to shreds. I chose a 2v dome, meaning there were only two lengths the wood had to be cut too. which makes it very hard to use rigid plastic. I should have made a 3v dome and the triangles would have been smaller and I could have used rigid plastic and nothing would have happened to it. I will be eventually putting up a 3v in the new home when we find it so I can do rigid plastic and still grow those tall exotic fruits I love.

By the way on plant deaths I lost a third of all temperature sensitive plants. Hopefully the weather forecast is right and we are on a warming trend down here. New covering is supposed to arrive on Monday.

I've been dealing with two sick pullets. The others seem fine. I'm waiting for dawn to go check and see if Daffodil made it through the night.

I hope that they will be ok.

For about 2 week's now I have been having a red NN pullet screaming at me when I go out there. She will follow me around inside of the pen while I walk around the outside of it checking to see if anything had tried to dig in during the night, and she won't shut up until I talk to her personally. I think that she need's a name of some sort.

And she seems to have recovered! Yesterday her head flopped in all directions and she couldn't hold it up. Today she came to greet me. Those electrolytes seem to have worked wonders.

I don't know who. I did take that motion sensor crowing rooster out there today because I wanted to find out who I heard crowing yesterday evening before the sun went down. The crowing had stopped before I got out there yesterday. Today I found out what one of the 3 boy's that it was. It was the Red Dorking.

Well, at least now you know who it was.

There's been an owl hanging around near the big coop for the last few days. The run is sturdy enough to keep it out, but when it's around in the evenings, the chickens won't leave the coop.

I don't blame them. Who would want to become owl food?
