Arizona Chickens

We went back and forth between peaked coops and the flat topped one. The flat topped one is slightly larger and we're getting a good deal on it. We don't get heavy snow here. The entire coop will be encased in 1/4" hardware cloth, including under the tarp, water can't collapse it with the hardware cloth under it.

The henhouse opens up on two sides and the ceiling/top comes off. Does it need more ventilation than that? We figured we'd leave it opened up like that most of the year.

I worked out the costs of the connectors at that site, I think it came out to about $125. That's not bad but custom drilling all the holes and adding bolts and making sure everything lines up correctly, etc. sounds like an expensive nightmare. I'd rather buy it all already done.

We considered a hoop coop. Delivery costs on the cattle panels put it out of our budget.

I love the screw-in trampoline anchors. I don't know if those would work with the caliche here but I'd like to give those a try in addition to some above-ground anchoring.
the holes are predrilled and come with the screw connectors. I use these to build my runs and have had Javelina and bob cats bounce off the welded wire attached to the poles and not have had any issues. I watched a full size wild pig, waist high bounce off the pole and it did not move.

Nobody's been laying here lately. :( In order to do a hatch, I'd have to get some eggs off eBay or someplace, and build another coop. So far, it looks like the 5 chicks from this past summer are 4 pullets and a cockerel. Big Ben and his son have been having early morning conversations (crow-a-thons), so whatever way they end up getting housed, there will need to be at least two separate flocks so the boys don't argue. And Gabriel is turning out to be handsome. :)
I might have some extra fertile egg's over here. They won't be the breed's that you have up there, but you could always hatch them and then sell them up there.

LOL, thanks for the offer, but I'll pass. A friend is looking for some chickens, but she wants young laying pullets only, for free, and doesn't have a coop yet. This is the same one who wanted hatching eggs but doesn't have an incubator. Every so often she reminds me that she needs chickens, and I remind her that she needs a coop before she gets any chickens. :idunno

I'll probably do more Leghorn eggs in the spring if I can get my hands on another coop. :)

LOL, she hasn't asked yet, but this summer she did ask me for free hatching eggs. I told her if she had an incubator, I'd gladly give her some. She said she wanted to borrow my incubator and my brooder box along with the hatching eggs. I told her both were in use, and suggested she pick up some chicks at a feed store, since they're only few dollars apiece. I told her that would be a lot easier and less hassle, and she could pick the breeds she likes best. She said she didn't want to do that, she wanted free chickens. I told her even if she bought or hatched some, she'd still need a coop. Guess I'm just being hard to deal with. *sigh*

I bet that you would have to buy the chick feed too then, because she won't be able to get that for free otherwise.
