Arizona Chickens

102???? Nooooo! Hopefully I'm slightly higher in elevation. We just found out my dad never finished installing the new cooler. 😳
It's going to be even hotter then that here. According to the weather man, the temp's where I am at will be breaking 110-F. That is killing temp's.

A word to the wise, I know that we need the mister's up to help them, but having the mister's running will also attract allot of flies. Prepare for that with some of those fly catching bag's, or some of those Fly Predator one's from a company called "Good bug's" or something like it. I already put 2 of the large fly trap bag's up late afternoon yesterday, and I have my order for the Fly Predator's put in from Amazon that have just shipped.

Edit: This is the Fly Predator one's. I bought some last and wanted to order more of them, but they were out of stock. I bought the 20,000 size this time.

I'm ready! or I will be once I find a place to install this fly trap. I do need to plug it in but I have long extension cords so no issue there. Some people on another thread said you could feed the dried bugs to the chickens. New protein source! (yes also a fat source probably).

Let us know how that one work's for you. I've been using the bag one's called Fly Rescue.

Do any of you know if there are weeds in the yavapai county area that I should not allow my chicks to eat? Thought they might like to tractor around a bit.
Also be aware of ANTS - I don't tractor mine around because I have way too many anthills popping up - and because I don't have enough actual green pasture grass for the last couple years.

Yes, I already attacked I think it was 3 ant hill's, and one of those was trying to build up inside of the chicken run last month. One year some ant's had ate up some of the chick's I had out there. Now, I am constantly watching every day for those ant's and get any that I see right away.

Thanks for the suggestion! I've not heard of this before. Have you already tried these in the past? (Or anyone else?) We're west of Phoenix and get waves of flies at random times during the year. It gets so bad at times and we don't even have chickens yet!

I'm building a coop now and have ordered some misters, so am grateful for the head's up regarding misters and flies. I should've figured that out seeing that they like it when I hang laundry out to dry. :p
