Arizona Chickens

We have the chain link fence with privacy slats and a smaller block wall inside that, but if you're tall enough you can see over the fence, unfortunately.

Years ago I caught a guy checking out the contents of the yard. I was sitting in a chair and quietly reading and he didn't see me. I stood up and asked him what the $#%^@ he thought he was doing. He jumped and his eyes got big as saucers and he mumbled something about yard work. I told him we didn't need any and he needed to move along. He walked around to the front of the house and kicked over our mail box. 🙄 We didn't have much stuff in the yard back then and we figured it was just a one-off. I think we should have gotten a shed then. I know a locked shed isn't a perfect deterrent but it helps when things are out of sight.

What kills me is that most of our neighbors don't have garages either and they store all kinds of things in their yards out in the open. They don't have dogs AND they have working gates that open right into the alley (our alley gate is covered and doesn't open). So WHY did the thieves choose us??

(Edit: I don't wish ill on any of our neighbors! I'm just trying to understand something which is probably not understandable.)
You're right it's not understandable. I too don't wish ill on neighbors but figure my layers of security just need to be better than theirs so the predators will take the easiest bait. Some thieves/predators are better/smarter at their job than others. Thieves especially vary widely in motivation and intelligence - some motivations make them stupid or they just have a completely whacked way of thinking - like they might not use a gate - they just hop a wall. Or they just had an extra hour of time and happened to be right where you are...etc.

I'm seeing some cloud's passing over me here today, and they are looking like somebody north of me is going to maybe get some rain today or maybe this evening? I hope that some might drop down over here too.
Well, at least I am getting a few sprinkles. I hope that it last's for a bit.

Hello Arizona. No rain for us, and I’d bet it won’t show up here today either. Should have washed the car.

Scary news about water rights and use lately has me looking at ways to be more water wise. When you start catching water for reuse you realize just how much has been wasted, and I thought I was pretty efficient.

Enjoy the cooler weather for the next couple days!

Yes, all the building up here has me wishing I had gutters, so at least I could catch the rain water. I probably should have some put in.

That’s at the top of my to do list now. It’s cloudy and not too horrible outside. I wish that humidity would transition to rain!
