Arizona Chickens

Thanks. There are so many threads and topics. I’m new to BYC. I have 2 Leghorns, 3 Brahma, 2Rhode Island Reds and I think 1 Easter Egger hen and 1 Easter Egger rooster. We raised most from chicks excel the last two EEs. Most got our very first egg!!
It's always exciting when after you have raised them for month's and then you find those first egg's.

Finally we have misters that are set on a timer that go off 15 minutes every two hours. I might have to change the timer a little bit, maybe to 8-10m every hour but it seems to help.
Hi and welcome! What timer do you use for the misters?

We live in North Phoenix. We have a swamp cooler on them where they can get cooled off if they want and we leave plenty of water spots out. We have an area where they can take dirt baths and we actually have a small pool if they really want to get cool down. Welcome to our state thread! Those swamp coolers can be very nice. I live way north of Phx so I just have misters, ice bottles, and ice blocks in shallow trays.

That's great about your first egg! It's a very exciting thing.

The "babies" are 18 weeks and 6 days today. The crested one started squatting at least a week ago so I did a make shift nest box with a plant pot on its side, some shavings, a board to keep it all in, and a fake egg. Everyone's been picking at the shavings.

Then about 6 pm I go out to check on everyone. I happen to see a small tinted egg no where near my nestbox, but just under and behind the roosts on the ground! perfectly clean. 33 grams, whereas my andalusians started at 32 grams. so, tiny!

The Crested Cream Legbar's don't lay a very big egg.

My new order of shipped Bielefelder egg's have finally shipped today, so they are on the way.

Nice. This past week though, my hens have found my garden. They’re pretty much trashing it so I may have to relocate the garden. :(

Maybe you could fence in your garden so that your chicken's can't feast on it?
