Arizona Chickens

Those of you that have had hen's laying that will be molting soon, have you been starting to preserve any of them now before the molt when they will stop laying egg's? I have been boiling some up then peel and chop putting them into ziplock freezer bag's. Then I put them in my deep freezer.

Have you considered waster glassing the eggs?? Using lime water to store for long periods.
I can forward threads about doing that.

Any AZ chicken people out there? I am looking for some advice on raising chicks in the desert. I'm in Mesa. Does it get too hot out here? I have four 20 day old chicks, 3 Buff Orps and 1 leghorn. Do we need to do anything special here
We live in North Phoenix. We have a swamp cooler on them where they can get cooled off if they want and we leave plenty of water spots out. We have an area where they can take dirt baths and we actually have a small pool if they really want to get cool down. Finally we have misters that are set on a timer that go off 15 minutes every two hours. I might have to change the timer a little bit, maybe to 8-10m every hour but it seems to help.

Hello, and welcome to our Arizona thread! What breed or breed's of chicken's do you have?

Did anyone else get insane winds last night? We had stuff blown all over. Felt like the strength of a dust devil but sustained. And kept coming in waves.
I think that the worst of those storm's happened in the north/western part of the state last night. I do know that I was passed by on both sides, so didn't get anything here.

Thanks. There are so many threads and topics. I’m new to BYC. I have 2 Leghorns, 3 Brahma, 2Rhode Island Reds and I think 1 Easter Egger hen and 1 Easter Egger rooster. We raised most from chicks excel the last two EEs. Most got our very first egg!!
