Arizona Chickens

I'm pretty sure that it would grow back.
But, hopefully it'll grow back straight like the ones behind it! At least, so far that's what's happening with the cuckoo pullet. Still crossing my fingers on both and on the black EE/ameraucana with the rust bleeding thru on the neck. But, the crested one squatted today!

That crested one looked like a Crested Cream Legbar to me, and if she is, you will be seeing blue egg's.

I'm hoping. She's got some more barring in the bottom feathers so maybe she's not an easter egger. I hadn't heard of easter eggers based on cream legbar so I really thought for sure she was a legbar. hope so!

The Crested Cream Legbar's were used to make the one's that they call Lakeshore Egger's, and those can lay different color's just like the Easter Egger's do. It just depends on what they crossed it with. The 2 that I ended up with before one laid a tinted cream, and the other one laid a light tan.

This discussion on storing water and in what types of containers got me wondering. Do you all use any particular buckets for attaching the water cups (quail cups)? Should they be food grade plastic or is any ol' (new) Home Depot bucket ok?
I bought food grade buckets at tractor supply for around $5. Couldn't find a better deal anywhere.

We had a proper storm early evening yesterday. Lost power for about 3 hours. A generator might be our next investment. 🤣

You're looking at a generator, I'm looking at rain gutters to trap water... a generator for me should be next. Maybe a solar generator, to power the freezer that holds the chicken ice and some spare food?

Really do your homework on generators and the load you intend to put on it. Freezers or refrigerators have a motor startup that is higher than the general running load (I'm not good at electrical - I forget the tech terms) that the generator may not be able to deal with.

Solar generator systems need good batteries (and maintenance of those batteries is key), good panel orientation (changes with seasons - and you need to clean the panels), and more considerations. One big advantage of a solar generator is it's QUIET so you're not advertising to bad actors that you have power.

We started with a dual fuel generator (diesel or propane), then a more portable gas generator, now have a solar generator (that we waited 6 months for delivery and paid up front). We have to prioritize the loads we put on the generator. But we need 2 - one for the well and the other for essential loads for the residence.

Also you need to test your generator setup regularly - not just to see if it works or needs maintenance - but to test yourself in the procedure to get it running (especially on a gas, propane or diesel system).

The refrigerators made for RVs are now trending toward 12volt refrig's. They use way less electricity than the standard household refrig. I bet they'd be a good backup to use if one had to rely on a generator or even solar power during a power loss.
There's a small refrigerator in the pop-up camper that we have, but I'd have to ask my husband about that.

We were seeing those 12 volts at the RV shows we like to go to when they're in town. They make sense since many of the new RVs are available with solar packages. I actually bought a 9.8 cubic foot 12v refrig to replace the refrig in an old (2003) RV we bought last year. The original one had issues but the dealer ended up repairing it :yesss: , so we never put the new one in. Now I happen to have this 12v refrig still boxed up.
The other fridge is running so well, I don't know what I'll do with this new one. :idunno
