It was years ago for mine, but antibiotic was injected directly into the facial swelling, for sinusitis.

Bob, and everyone that lost birds...so sorry for your losses.

I'm normally a large dog person but he has made me always want a CC in my life.

Gorgeous day today.

Do you think I should start planting? I've got the garden ready to go. I'm thing I should get some romaine in as well as broccoli and cauliflower.

Very cute Lyongirl.

I am more of a bigger dog person myself though I guess my Aussies are more medium dogs. I was tossing around the idea of getting LGD ar simular before Sunday and that set my mind, so that is one of my next projects. I have some setting up to do first though. I want to build it a real decent dog house as it will be out most to all of the time, but especially at night when the other 2 are inside. My Aussies were the ones that found the loner coyote still in the yard in the morning eating the roo and chased it off.

I did. It seems I usually wait too long and the broccoli bolts from the heat before it's very big, so this year I wanted to start earlier. I got the seeds started about 3 weeks ago, and my lettuce is already coming up. The weather is improving every day, so go for it!

It was a winter picture so he had his sweater tan. This was the day before his eye was removed.

This is Tubby, I cut all her hair off. The kids would pull it, she would get dirty and matted. So I chopped it off.

My poor Duncan has his sweater tan right now. It cracks me up everytime I change his sweater.

I'm a dog groomer and I used to groom a PP (before I went to a different shop that was too far for them) and he cut it down to about an inch all over and just left the head hair. I thought it looked rather cute and if I had one I would end up doing that since I don't deal with hair too well. That's why I bought a hairless dog after all

They are both so adorable! *steals them*

Would that deificiancy be an individual thing for the chicks do you know? Something like how some hens need more calcium than others.

It could be an individual thing, but if if you raised a group under the same conditions and only the one had the problem, I'd go with LareePQG's explaination. Hopefully your chicken will fair as well as the crossbecked ones the other folks have written about.

Good thing my friend does the gardening. You would be making him jealous if he was reading this. I am tempted to mention it to get him started thinking about his plans for this year.

Noskiveez, those 2 are so adorable as well. If I were rich, I could be so tempted to bring home so many breeds and then of course would have to hire nannysto be sure all of my babies got the attention they need

CrazierThanAverage - thank you. He actually does really well and better than I expected. The beak seems to be the only issue and he eats well and fills his crop when I fill the feeders. I also tend to give him a little more like when I do meal worms and such to get the extra protien to him. I am sure he is not a radiant as he would be with a normal beak, but I really watch for signs to be sure he is not suffering. Little monster wormed his way into our hearts. That same friend was in agreement that I should cull him early and by the time came he was asking me if I really had to before i said something about keeping him around. And he is the less emotional one

What can you do? He is about 8 - 9 months now.

Good morning everyone

I am going to have to be happy with this guy for now, as I ran out of coffee untiln I hit the store tomorrow. I am going to have to stop at the gas station on the way to work for everyones sake.

Saddly, yes. I only have one coop/run and they appeared healthy (to me) when I got them. Now I know better...not that it solves the current problem.

Granola's breathing is back to normal, her open eye is much better, and she seems to be feeling a little better (not great yet, but better). The closed eye smells horrible, but the swelling is down a little. The little Nameless One seems about the same. I moved them to our "big" kennel (3 x the "puppy" kennel they were in) and added Nugget, the third new EE, whose eye was starting to swell. One of the new Barred Plymouth Rock’s eyes was also starting to swell so I stuck her in the "puppy" kennel. As I was doing that, another one of the new BPRs coughed right in front of me...so in she went also. All of them are getting antibiotic water. After rummaging around in the barn, I managed to find two old birdcages (the previous owners must have had a lot of birds) big enough to hold a chicken, so...The two remaining new arrivals (who appear healthy and are still laying) got their own private accommodations. I did not give them antibiotic water, since they are laying and we want the eggs. Please someone let me know if I am wrong, but as I understand it, you can't eat the eggs while giving antibiotics and for 2 weeks after you stop giving. That is the only thing that has stopped me from dosing the entire flock. Everyone else still appears healthy.
