Arizona Chickens

Yup, Shoo'ed her off and she was hungry. I handfed her some pellets and she drank some. The others were starting to roost.

That little stinker then started heading for the nestbox again! So I picked her up and stuck her with the others. šŸ˜…
You might have to do that more than once. Sometimes they need a little jail time to break them lol.

It sound's like she's gone broody on you. Better you break her of it as you do not have any fertile egg's for her to hatch.

I was at the boat races this weekend watching the season's final's.

You are right. This morning she was in there again. :th I couldn't shoo her out then, though, because there were 2 other girls in there with her, lol! Once they were "done" I pulled her out. Spent some time in the run tidying up, cleaning water dishes, and she stayed out.:fl I'll be keeping an eye.

Normally there are no feathers in the nestbox. But there were quite a few in there after her shenanigans.

Sometimes takes more than a little broody jail time. I had one broody for a month or more. I thought she would never break. I tried to give her chicks but they were already a week old so didn't work. Now she is just in a pen adjacent to the juveniles and another hen who didn't like her rooster.

My project this week is to build out the grow-out pen in the greenhouse, put the 2 hoop coops on spent greenhouse beds to house some roos, and clean out/plant remaining greenhouse beds with lettuce/spinach/cabbage for the winter.

That sounds about right. I broke a broody by giving her day old chicks and taking her eggs. She promptly stomped out of the coop and another hen raised the chicks :gig Jail might be necessary, no bedding or anything so she can’t nest and maybe even a fan during the day to blow some cool air.

Good afternoon AZ. It’s gorgeous outside, still a bit cool in the shade though. The chicks are feathering out still and having much fun foraging in the yard with mom and they’re doing fine with the others. I put all the covers on the front of the coop already. I heard we’re supposed to have a warmer, dryer Winter due to La NiƱa but it doesn’t seem like it. Not that I’m complaining! I hope everyone is well and your flocks are healthy!

And I had been hearing we're supposed to have a wetter winter! Who knows? I just hope if it is wetter, that it is warmer like you've heard, I could do without a ton of snow up here.

Lol, we’ll I guess nobody really knows then lol. I completely understand not wanting snow, it’s nice to visit but live with it? No thanks.

Here's the Naked Neck/Bielefelder (first 2 pics) and Bielefelder juveniles now...sorry some blurry... I know I need to take the heater out...lol. I love that all of them have super yellow feet and this NN/B cockeral is soooo beautiful!
