Nuke - Sorry to hear about the chick. I got a cross beak out of a hatchery bird but didn't effect her eating or drinking.

I have a little EE chick... was the biggest one to hatch that has a HORRID crossbeak. It's almost to a 90 degree angle and I'm thinking about culling. I don't know how it can survive like that... that and I'm almost positive it's a roo.. came out of a HUGE blue egg from halo. Daddy was a Wheaten Marans, mama is a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana. So it has muffs, beard and feathered feet. No amount of trimming would help this chick. Makes me sad

Mahonri, Im so sorry to hear that. If it came out of a really big egg, it probably came from one of the EE hens, not the Ameraucana. Especially if it has muffs and beard; the Ameraucanas in that pen are beardless.

Dont you hate it when that happens? I just went over all my babies from that cross, and they all look fine. I guess if you hatch enough, these genes will show up.

Happy Saturday y'all! Sorry I haven't been around. My friend from California and her 11 year old daughter moved in with us and things have been a little crazy. I also had surgery for cervical cancer which may not be over yet. Keep your fingers crossed for me...
