Arizona Chickens

I rounded up all the "hidden" eggs yesterday to the tune of 28! I have about 24 layers with some more upcoming in Feb/March. This has been probably a few days for some hidden clutches and up to a week for one of them. Only about 7 seemed to be unfit for human consumption - not that I'm selling/giving any away right now - these are all ours or the dogs, especially since some have probably been frozen.

Some hidden areas are because they laid in newly spread straw in a corner that I can't see very well and behind doors that are hard to open/close due to frost/moisture so I neglected them thinking they weren't laying very many.
I found a smaller shiny light pink egg out there yesterday. It's most likely out of one of the pullet's that I kept out of the hatch I let you have those other's. I cracked it open last night to give to Buster with his med's mixed into it. It was fertile.

The 2 boy's are still getting along together in the same coop and pen. The younger one might end up being bigger then Hawkeye is.

Now I'm starting to feel like a High Roller again :old :gig
No,,,, not from today,,, but from 4 days worth:thumbsup
My hens just recently started laying again. The small eggs are from my Banties.

So chickens don't like change! But---I bribed them to tolerate one more change.

I moved houses, and took the easiest chicken coop/run with me and tried to make it work. But even in the desert, I really needed the steeply sloped roof of my large poultry walk in run. So I got help in bringing it to the new place and putting it up. Then I added a doorway in it to separate an area of it for baby chicks I have arriving in a couple of weeks.

A couple days ago I finally let the birds into the newly erected run. Kept them in it 24/7 a couple days then let them into the yard as usual, but I had blocked the old run with a segment of fencing. They got "stuck" once looking at the door to the old run, but easily bribed to the correct run with sunflower seeds.

So, they have their walkin poultry run back in our new home, and are roosting and laying in it, not trying to get into the old one any more. YAY!

Congrats on the new house, your flock, and the new chick's arrival when they get there!
