Arizona Chickens

Indeed yesterday was hot!^
I turned the misters on for the chickens. Then I gave them some frozen blueberries.

Took the 3 week old chicks outside. Had them in a pen with me on the outside of the main run. It was so hot, though, that the main chickens barely wanted to get up to take a peek (...except the roo -- he was quite curious).
He was probably wondering how he got babies without his girls hatching them.

Yes, the weather has been crazy. Isn't there anyone near you or that you know that can help you?
Not that I have found. Most people complain it’s too hot or too windy or they are too tired from work. That last part is valid but when my brother is out there working two hours a day then going to work, I don’t see it as a valid excuse anymore lol

Then ladies say it’s too hot to babysit! They want to drop the kids off at the pool and pretend they aren’t there while they enjoy margaritas and pretzels

I lived in the Verde Valley some years ago. Make sure to watch out for flash flooding as that caused problems for my hens during monsoon season. There are lots of predators in Az that will always be after your chickens. I have lost girls to raccoons and coyotes, and I am sure rattlers will cause a huge problem as well. Make sure your coop is in sight of a frequently visited window if you can, so you can see any activity from predators or if your hens seem to be struggling with the heat.

Yes, many people are lazy or irresponsible these days. You can see it everywhere.

I know. That's why so many children are drowning in the swimming pools.
