Arizona Chickens

No way to stop the big's from eating those crumbles once they are together. You may have to set up a few feed stations of the crumbles so that the chick's will still be able to eat without the big's chasing them away from food and water.
You're right, I'm sure. Guess there's no avoiding it.
Since they're still separated for now, I did toss some pellets in the littles' food dish last evening. Curious to see if they eat any. (Haven't checked yet.)

Thinking about when I let my chicks integrate with the others. The others have been eyeing their starter crumbles. (My big girls eat pellet feed.) Not sure how to keep the big ones from eating the crumbles. I have a 5 lb bag and was hoping that would last until they're old enough to eat the all-flock pellets.
Set up an exclusion gate that only the littles can get thru, set crumbles in there out of reach of the bigs. Littles can dart in and out of that area but bigs can't.

I can get a pic of a couple different exclusion gates I have later if you need examples.

When I read how people want to raise a single chick so it is friendly.. I don’t know how they expect to get anything done!! A singleton needs a ton more attention and needs all the love you have to offer. Still there is no guarantee that this single chick is going to be friendly.

Don’t get me wrong! I adore Rugby but gosh dang I gotta make sure all his needs are met plus the attention he needs seeing as he is a lone chick!

Kick some of these people in the head I swear lmao.

Anyways! How are y’all?

Hi, I’m in Yuma and I have some two week old chicks. Will they survive the summer or do need to have them inside? Would appreciate any advice you might have. Thanks!
Shallow water dishes they can wade in helps a lot too. During the worst heat my chickens love to hop in and out of the water to help cool and sometimes just stand in it. I also put roosts in the runs during the summer. They sleep more comfortable on those 100° nights if they can catch every bit of air movement.

Mine like to do that too.

I plan to hatch a few of the Aloha NN mix eggs to see what I get. Have to wait about a month since she was still in with Billy Bielefelder until last nite.
I ordered some of those to hatch over here, but they haven't shipped yet. They will be coming from Tennessee. Remember my next door neighbor is doing the Naked Neck's, and need's new younger girl's.
