Arizona Chickens

Hey, anybody have any suggestions? I have bees going after the feed in the chicken feed! I had been seeing one or two buzzing around the opening port on the bucket feeder. Today there were dozens-- around the feeder and in the bucket itself.

Consider getting some of these hornet traps. Use your own 2 liter bottle, and into some place different baits. Some of the chicken pellets. Some sweet apple juice in another. Experiment. I am not familiar what type of bees those are. Honey bees usually just go for flowers.
I have used this funnel type of trap. I did not have a bee issue but was concerned about Paper wasps. I did not catch any paper wasps though. I did catch a few flies. Needless to say,, my fly catchers outdid these by far. Most likely because I use different bait for flies.

What brand of feed are you using? Honey bee's usually go after something sweet, and being this time of year, it can be scare for them. Sometimes they will go after feed, especially if there is anything sweet in it including molasses.

Wonder if a simple bowl of sugar water, pop or similar, set away from the coop would keep them out of the feed with out killing them?

I wondered if it was the feed. I had switched brands when Cal-Ranch had supply issues.

I'll have to see if they came back (been inside all day with Thanksgiving prep).
Last night I emptied & hosed out the bucket. (They have a secondary feeder on other end of run.) Earlier this morning I refilled it & put it back.

I need bees around to pollinate my veg garden....just don't want them hovering all in the feed.

In the meantime, hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!!
