Arizona Chickens

It's been a rough morning. Our silkie rooster went after my daughter pretty badly this morning. I don't get it. He has always been so sweet. After our first rooster turned out to be pure evil and putting up with it for months, I told the girls that we wouldn't do that anymore. If a rooster turned mean, that would be the end of him. But, this rooster has been so nice! He was really picked on at the place we got him from, and maybe that is what made him nice. We put him in with our juvies and he ran around showing them who's boss the whole time. He has had an attitude ever since. He is a little guy and the juvies are bigger breeds. I am hoping that they will get bigger and put him back in his place and he'll be nice again. Do you think that is possible? She said that he flew at her and she kicked him off. Then, he just kept coming and she kicked him off about times. Well, he HATES being picked up. I suggested that she just kick him away once and then run after him trying to pick him up. I think that would send him running and put her back in charge. Is that a good strategy? I really don't want to get rid of him, and he's too small to be great for cooking. There are 7 in my family, and he sure wouldn't go far.

Also, I happen to like him.

I hope everyone gets to feeling better quickly and that your FIL finds out what is going on for the better quickly.

that your girl gets better and soon

Mahonri - Darn it. What a little cutie. I am sorry for that loss

Beckyhsinglsc - I'm sorry about your hen. Time for me to clean up the yard again.

TT - I trully could not agree more. There should not only be restrictions on food stamps but some kind of spot checks on mothers and their children to ensure they are being used properly. I mean, it is horrible, reselling the food to buy drugs and then expecting the children to eat that cheap crud... Ok, I need to stop and get off that soap box. Sorry

5pinkarrows - I think I would try that for a while. Dont kick him too hard, but yes have her let him know who is in charge.

edited to fix link

My Americauna girls are bright-eyed but they don't leave the coop unless enticed out with food. They just sit on the roost and make fertilizer. Just wallflowers? Cold? Bored? What do you think? Since I started letting them out the feather pulling seems a bit better, and they are getting extra protein because of the mealworms. They seem healthy enough. They're my first featherbabies, I obsess.

That looks like ours did when she was a new layer. The first egg we got was dark, then a few almost pink eggs and now they are about a terracotta color.
