Arizona Chickens

I had no idea there were so many leghorn variations! Please post some more photos when you have a chance.
I just took these ones out there. I tossed them some scratch to keep them out from under my feet.

Yes, the cockerel in the front in the last picture is the boy that I'm keeping.

We purchased our home in 2022, located north of Rio Verde/ Fountain Hills and east of Scottsdale. We recently began raising our own chickens - Frances, Ethel, PegLeg and 3 others that have not really earned names yet. All of our chickens were purchased from Tractor Supply last spring. My father built our coop, and the flock's yard space (as well as a connecting bridge), but the Hen House was a kit also from Tractor Supply. I'll take photos of the Coop and Yard tomorrow for everyone.

Any AZ chicken people out there? I am looking for some advice on raising chicks in the desert. I'm in Mesa. Does it get too hot out here? I have four 20 day old chicks, 3 Buff Orps and 1 leghorn. Do we need to do anything special here
Ours (not even 1 year) managed the summer just fine, with a north-south cross breeze always coming through. We were raising them in our garage until about July, when they transitioned to their newly built coop. The coop has a full, shaded roof - we have hawks, and predators to protect against. Their coop also has a mostly solid eastern wall. We recently constructed their yard that encloses a hackberry bush, with a chicken-wire roof -this is connected to the Coop by a bridge with an automatic door.

Hello. I see that you just joined byc. Welcome to our states thread. I'll be waiting to see your pictures when you share them here with us.

One of two. Frances and Ethel, Frances has more red on her head/neck.

We have two Naked Necks, two Sapphire Gems, two Jerseys (I think - I wasn't there when they were purchased).
Chicken's can be fun to watch. Of the 3 breeds that you mentioned, I did have the naked necks before.
