Arizona Chickens

Quote:
There was one in Chino Valley (just north of Prescott) that has a great reputation and we used, but he has gone private and only processes his own meat to sell now. He had too many customers that caused him headaches (long story and not really mine to tell)

There is also one on Orme Rd that I believe process birds, but I am not sure. That is off of I-17 just a little way north of the Hwy 69 junction (Cordes Junction) I really don't know that much about them but could probably find out if anyone is looking. It would be a bit of a drive for most of you but let me know if you want info. I could probably ask around a bit to find out more as well.

TT! :

My chickens are boogers! I thought egg production had slowed because it was winter time. Then I found a stash of eggs under the hen house. The have been hiding them! I blocked it off and got 6 eggs today! And, the Unremarkable Aloha Project Chicken That Didn't Make the Cut (the one that came out red with no spots) is laying small olive green eggs!

I am wondering about that myself. I have been getting 3 or 4 eggs one day and then none and then a couple. It is really random, but who knows the wind It has been rattling thier roof more than usual) or something else may be setting them off. I have been letting the birds free range during the day. The rule is pretty much when either I am home and can listen/watch for issues or the dogs are outside. I have been checking around lately to any area that looks like it might be tempting to chickens and am thinking I may need to clean and check the crawl space under the house. I am also wonding if the local crows/ravens ( I can never keep the 2 straight as to which is which) have been raiding me lately. I am thinking I might leave everyone locked up for a while and put the netting over the top of the pen. The only reason I did not do it before was to let the guineas fly in and out to forage, but that is no longer an issue.
