I lost 4, five week olds to a huge hawk.

I've scared him a couple of times and haven't seen him in almost a week.

Mahonri, maybe you scared it into getting food somewhere else and it went over to pastrymama...

Yeah, come and get your hawk. This guy is big and I don't even have a sling shot(not that I could even hit anything). I think of the Christmas story and the red rider bb gun, you'll shoot your eye out...

Wow, both the eggs and the birds are stunning. That is amazing that they are able to get that price for them; good for them! I try to stay away from the auction section. I'm less likely to get into trouble that way.

for organic eggs they have to be feed organic feed
i wonder if the eggs on craigslist
that say organic are feed organic feed
if they are not feed organic feed they
would be natural eggs rather than organic
same thing as poultry to be certified organic
chickens, ducks, turkeys they have to only be feed
organic feed and the soil they are on they
have to be organic and not have any
kind of fertilizers in the soil they walk on

I agree turkey, I considered going organic myself and realized there is so much more cost involved. That would mean even the veggies you feed them are organic along with the treats etc. I can't see myself affording organic watermelon, cottage cheese, yogurt, greens, etc. I hope the seller is not misleading the public it makes the rest of us egg raisers look bad.

Double agree. Everything in my whole house would have to be organic... mine even get the heels from loaves of bread. I can't imagine the cost of every food item in my house being organic... sheesh! I don't feed organic feed, but I don't use any chemicals in my yard. If I chose to buy organic feed and stop feeding human food to the birds, then I could claim it, but not otherwise.

Eating organic is tough logistically and tough on the pocket book. We've noticed a huge improvement in both over the past two years though. Probably somewhere about 90-95% of what we eat is organic. It certainly helps when you raise a good portion of what you eat. My chickens are close to 100% organic. The price of the organic feed is enough to make you want to faint. Good thing we only have 6 chickens and they don't eat much.
