Arizona Chickens

Redo, the last quote I sent regarding honey was meant for you guys.
Let me know if you are ready to get honey??
I am so happy you guys got sillies!! Maybe when your hens go broody I can give you some fertile eggs?
Happy New Years!!

I'll be needing to go get some more honey some time in the coming week. I've gone through quite a bit with me having the flu and then a three week fight with bronchitis. All the congestion from the flu settled in to my chest. It's been miserable, but the raw honey has helped quite a bit. My wife said you told her he was running really low. I'll call him and find out what he has. Alfalfa was my absolute favorite.

I don't suspect I'll have broodies for awhile. None of my girls have even started laying yet.

Yeah, I guess the Silkies are about three months old. I've been putting them outside during the day, but I think this coming week, I'll try to transition them more to the coop full time. The two Barred Rocks have completely left the Silkies alone while they are outside, so I think things should go pretty easy there. Here's hoping...

A very funny story a friend posted: My Favorite Animal

Our teacher asked what my favorite animal was, and I said, "Fried chicken." She said I wasn't funny, but she couldn't have been right, because everyone else laughed. My parents told me to always tell the truth...I did. Fried chicken is my favorite animal. I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA. He said they love animals very much. I do, too. Especially chicken, pork and beef.

Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal's office. I told him what happened, and he laughed, too. Then he told me not to do it again. The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was. I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, so I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken.

She sent me back to the principal's office. He laughed, and told me not to do it again. I don't understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn't like it when I am. Today, my teacher asked me to tell her what famous person I admired most. I told her, "Colonel Sanders." Guess where I am now...

Yes they did not have alfalfa... We got 2 gallons of citrus.. That is all they had.. I would love alfalfa... Call me & we can figure out the details...
They has been so many people I know sick with bronchitis.. I have been taking to the coop full time.
Good to hear they are playing nicely..

Does ANYONE have some new chicks, hatched within the past 3 days? I've GOT to put at least two under my broody before she dies... she's been on the nest for almost 4 weeks now.

I had one hatch today and multiples yesterday. I have Barnyard mixes and true Ameracanas from Pam. The Ameracanas are supper supper cute! I have more going into lockdown on Sunday for BBS Orp and Lavendar Ameracanas. I am going to be at feedbarn tomorrow getting feed so if you need me to meet you somewhere I can. I have to go to a house at 31st St and McDowell too so can meet you farther west.

Exhaustion has officially set in! I hatched chicks on the 21st, most of those have sold except for the ones I am keeping and brooding for pastrymama. Then I got the silkies which are adorable and I am catching the bug so I need a silkie inoculation before it ends up being yet another breed I am building housing for. Even my mother who came into town today and generally hates my chickens LOVES the silkies. We brought home the two new goats on the 22nd and had spent the week leading upto that rushing to finish everything. We get the goats home and realize we built WAY to big so now DH is looking at full size Nubians to add to the mix. He rocks at milking and I am awful at it so thankfully I am off the hook on the weekends and night and only have to do the morning milking. They are so cute though. Then family came into town on the 23rd and low and behold our well went out so we had NO water with a house full of California "city slickers" who eat mcdonalds in the car so that they don't have to eat the food that came from our garden or animals. So we had to haul water from the pool to the bathrooms just to be able to flush toilets. I ran to the store and bought all the drinking water they had. Making a prime rib dinner with no water is a blast...not! They fixed the water Monday but it was $1k to repair

thankfully family left Monday and we could somewhat get into our normal routine for a few days. I had set eggs for the NYD hatch along but got completely lost in the whole thing and the different contests and prizes that I finally gave up. My birds ended up not hatching till the 2nd and still have a couple in there I am hopeful will pop out. Then yesterday I am scrambling since my parents are coming into town they have a house next door and are VERY critical of everything of course always saying everything behind my back to my 6 siblings like how we bring down the value of the neighborhood with our animals...news flash I live in horse country everyone has animals. The stupid post carrier was suppose to deliver me eggs the Saturday before but didn't instead leaves a note saying pick up at post office Monday 12/31 so they are already sitting over the weekend in the post office, I go out Monday at 2pm and they closed at noon and are closed on the 1st so now my precious eggs have been sitting there 5 days and the lady gives me a hard time about picking them up as I didn't have a photo id but was shipping a package and paying with a credit card. Thankfully I had my passport card in my car and could use that but talk about GROUCHY postal worker! Then my lovely endearing husband comes home from work and hands me a brown little bag and says I got you something I open it to find 3 royal palm poults and proceeds to say "you need to set up a new brooder for them that chickens have never been in and here is their special feed.

The big brooders are already full so they end up in a box with newspaper as the first cage I put them in they could squeeze through the bars and I came out to find no poults and had to hunt them down in my messy garage. When I am putting them in the box I realize just how filthy they are with poo all over them and pasty butt truly disgusting so I start cleaning them up unsuccessfully but at least get their vents clear. Then I was up all night worrying about the poults so I am checking on them hourly so get zero sleep which is second night in a row. I ran out of wood chips so I couldn't get my newly hatched chicks in the brooder so I have them set up in my office which means I will be trying to get fuzz off of everything for the rest of the year. I set my eggs the the post office made impossible for me to get all 68 of them (Blue Black Splash Copper Marans, Sexlink Marans, Cuckoo Marans, and Super Blue Egg Layers) so all the incubators are full. ...... The truly sick part of my story is I am talking to my sister in Santa Barbara who has chickens but just mutt chickens and have been trying to convince her to get some rare breeds since she has an ideal set up and ideal city to raise and sell them. She is on board and now I am looking for the breeds to hatch for her or eggs to send to her to hatch so I am creating another monster in my family (but at least I wont be alone). And of course as soon as I fill the incubators up I start to think, man in 3 weeks these will all be empty and I will be alone and the bug to buy more eggs gets me. So if anyone has any special requests for certain types of chicks PM me. Also I have the Ameracana chicks for sale that just hatched for $5 and the mutt chicks (they are really cute) for $3

Some Pictures to Enjoy
The silkies

This is a show girl...you either love them or hate them. I am still on the fence.

DH Milking his goat Cece

Ginger is my goat pick, she is 8 months old and the friendliest goat in the world! We plan on breeding her around March

These are the new chicks just born, 7 Ameracanas, 8 barnyard mixes, and 1 Black Copper Marans

I have 3 more turkey eggs in the incubator that go into lockdown Wednesday so am hopeful for at least 1 to hatch to add to my 3 royal palms which means time to build a new enclosure for the turkeys which might also happen to be set up for geese...shhh dont tell husband that though it is my secret and see if he even notices. If anyone has hatching turkey eggs locally please let me know. I am interested in Royal Palms and Narraganset but am open to others or Sebastapol Geese.....Screw AA I need to find a Chickens Anonymous or Hatching Anonymous to join
