Arizona Chickens

Oh, I wanted to tell everyone about the most incredible thing that happened last night.  Right before midnight we got a telephone call that woke us from a sound sleep.  It was someone calling to tell us that they found Rocket!  They had just seen him crossing Speedway Blvd, saw his reflective collar and knew that he was out of place and needed help.  They stopped and called to him and being the awesome cat he is, he went right up to them.  They found our contact information on his tag.   We can't believe he survived those six days of wandering.  Where he was found he would have had to  have crossed six lanes of Broadway, four lanes of Alvernon, six lanes of Speedway and all of the smaller roads in the two miles that he had travelled.  We suspect he was chased far by the coyote and got lost.   We've all been so terribly sad since he went missing and then lost the chickens; we were so overjoyed at his return that we couldn't hardly sleep.  I also keep thinking about that kind young couple that went out of their way to help and refused anything in return.  Such good and decent people.

My heart sings for you:love,

Gallo del Cielo Happy to hear that you got your Rocket back !!!

I have more light outside then inside. I use 1 oil lamp at night for basic light, watching TV, or reading books on my IPAD. I turn off lights when I leave the room, I set my house to 65 deg. At night 60 deg. I put on clothing and socks, I have a small 300 watt oil heater in my bed room, if cold more blankets. Max temp I have sleeper comfortably -20 deg (est). I love having option to turn on the heat or turn on a light. If I want to I do.

When I got home tonight my girls were still outside. I wonder if they were waiting for me to give the their evening treat (Left overs)? When I let Ernie out I check on the one last time they are always in their coop. If I do not have leftovers I chop up a hand full some greens. When my garden gets fully up and running they will have a more and a grater variety, only it will not be self serve. I sate a try of kale sprouts down and forgot it, they loved it. Fortunately most of them survived and regrow.

What great news!!!

Love this cartoon and the others....for you and Rocket!

Wow ladykoyadoria, that is a nice set up! I pulled our tomato plant out of the garden and gave it to the birds, it was pretty much dead. DW asked why I didn't protect it and I said I figured you didn't care.

I'm not a fan of tomatoes. Just checked the thermometer that I put outside from the incubator and it's already reading 27*. Looks like it will be the coldest night yet. We got the two orange trees wrapped up, the lemon should be fine and can't really do anything for the ficus(I'm not getting out the Christmas lights again) Shoved a flood light up in it so we will see what happens. Headed off to bed soon so all I need to do is put the back hose on to trickle. Thankfully I don't have any copper or aftermarket pex lines on the roof/attic, no one likes rain inside there house at about 8:30 ish?????

So happy to hear that!! I don't have cats but I can imagine how I would feel if it was any of my pets out there. I've found many stray animals and took the time to capture them if at all possible, even if I had to take them to the pound - I knew eventually the owners might check there or they had a chance of finding a new home. Of course, these were the ones that had no id.

I don't know why when you press submit, nothing happens. I hit is twice, the hit review. Then I was able to see it was submitted.

I hope it will not happen again.
This system takes a bit to get used to. If you have been using BYC for years as some of us have you would have seen many changes. Some feel that things have become more difficult but I think that it has just become a bit more complex.

However we should all be grateful to the many hours that the folks behind the scene put into this site. Many many hours are dedicated to this site by volunteers. I am a senior with limited funds or I would subscribe and do my part.

Hey everyone. I'm just getting caught up again, and popping in to say Hi.

MamaHenChris, I love your fodder set up. Much more sophisticated than mine, and you gave me a few ideas to steal. Thanks!

TT!, the coop is looking great! I got two black sex links and one red from Desertmarcy last year. The red is definitely bossier, although she has been my better layer.

Gallo, I am so happy to hear about Rocket's return. What fantastic news!

Very nice chicken pictures from everyone, as well. You all have such nice looking birds. Good luck to everyone with their plants. I have lost several so far, but luckily not the ones most important to me.
