Arizona Chickens

MamaHenChris....

I know you have used your silkie to hatch out ducklings... did you mist the eggs at all? I have heard people on here say that you need to add extra humidity, especially if you live in a dry location??? What is your thought on that? I think it's too late for me as my ducklings are due to hatch over the next couple days if they are indeed viable. My white silkie "Cloud" has been sitting on 7 Pekin/Rouen mixed eggs that I will be giving to my sister when she is done raising them. I am getting so impatient and hope that at least a few of them hatch!!
Also, how long past 28 days should I wait?
misting is for use in the incubator not under a broody duck or hen. i don't know how you would go about that anyway. they should be fine under your broody and should hatch right AROUND 28 days, give or take. I have had them start as early as day 23 and continue on until day 28-29, but not usually past. if it goes past, candle them at night and you should be able to see movement in the egg.

I culled my rooster last night because he was very mean... Now my hens are acting crazy and laying eggs in the run and not in the coop!? Is this normal? I
Also only got two eggs today when i should get six.

I caught Ms. Broody of the nest today, and snuck in and candled the eggs. 6 out of 8 were developing nicely. The other two were clear, so they must have either been infertile or very early quitters. A lot can happen in a week, but I'm optimistic that she'll manage to hatch a chick or two. Maybe I'll even get a pullet

cute about the pullet

Is anyone in healthcare. I need to get some help. I can get very sick all of a sudden and I'm unable to take care myself or anything else around me. I was told today that possibly there is a service that comes in and helps some like $50 they come in and help you out. When I get sick like this takes 40 hours to 72 hours for me to get back to normal. Is a good thing that I have responsibilities because otherwise I would probably just lay here and not do anything. I was able to feed my girls to make sure they have water but I am afraid of times. If anybody knows of direction I can go for assistance please let me know I'm going to do some searching on the Internet when I feel better.

i would think that you would need to call your insurance to see what kind of in-home assistance they offer. other than that, i really don't know.

aggree unless you plan to pay out of pocket... I'm in Payson they have a service up here where an aide comes in and will do anything from your grocery shopping, laundry, even assist with showers. They can do anything that doesn't involve lifting or administering meds. Let me find out what its called...

I completed the coop and run, now all of the chickens are in the same coop/run. I'm actually very surprised that the older girls didn't have a problem roosting with the younger ones. Here's a pic of the girls first night in the new coop.
