Arizona Chickens

yup, that's her. i threw it up on FB, votes say she is a crowing hen or has gapeworm. i treated her with fenbendazole late last night, but i really doubt that she has that. no one else is making that noise or shaking their heads, she is not shaking her head at all.
My hen Hazel (RIP) a SS. Similar to your "Fattie" making that "crow" sound. She still layed eggs and did this occasionally.

When I went out to check on the chickens this afternoon, there were 2 more chicks under the broody, for a total of three. Not too bad for a first time broody. Now we wait and see if any of them are girls.

No pips over here yet.

Power, a couple of weeks ago now, was doing just fine, suddenly started to make funny noises, walk a little un-steady and shaking her head. I thought I fealt something in her throat, when I fealt it she reacted. It was sugested that I use oilve oil, for several days she got olive oil about 3 times. Then she got better just as suddenly as it started. But she is still labored breathing. I am giving it time, incase there is damage and needs to heal.

Now she is stable with a raspy sound. Still laying, eating all she can eat, should I be looking at something ealse that might be going on? When I go out to see mom, today, I am going to stop and get punken seeds. Can't hurt. Any sugestions on anything other then punken seeds I could try?

Just thought I'd let you know that I took all those duck eggs away and broke them open to see... they didn't smell at all but they must have been unfertile - not a single one showed signs of development. I am thinking that I gave her the eggs too soon as my drake might not have been covering all the girls well a month ago. I should have candled early on - poor silkie sat on them all that time. Well, I am still learning...

Same thing happened to me the first time I had a broody hen. Not a single egg hatched. I gave her day old chicks and she took to them right away. I would suggest giving her some new chicks, she'll continue to sit, even if you took away the eggs. Another time, I had two broody hens that stayed broody for MONTHS! But when I finally broke down and gave them chicks, they acted like I threw fire crackers at them and were promptly not broody anymore.

Hi! We're from the White Mountains (Pineop/Lakeside) & planning to get some chicks & build our coop in the next 2 weeks. We are set on getting some barred rocks & australorps. For those in the valley Stock Shop at Thunderbird Ave offer a variety of breeds of chicks.

I posted this and now can't find it here so I'll do it again. I'm old gimme a break.

Our sex-link 'Red' started laying last week, 5 eggs in 6 days! It seem she taught our Polish hen 'Phyllis' how and where to lay! Yea! Our first eggs.

Our slikies haven't started laying yet but I'll bet it won't be too long. They are 6-7 months.

We've had our birds for about 7 months and really enjoy them. We let them out of the run in the late afternoon and enjoy interacting with them. 2 silkie hens, 1 sex-link, 1 polish. 1 columbian wyandotte and 1 partridge rock hen that are a few months from laying.

I just wanted to show them off now that they are fixing my breakfasts.

Im guessing that my hen had those eggs for a while because when i went to check on her i found 5 babies!! She took them out into the yard this morning and i caught her trying to steal the silkie chicks from the outside brooder! She was doing her best to get through to them! Two of the babies are a grey and olive green and the other 3 are a tan-ish color with brown spots. Coming from a white black-tipped japanese and either a white silkie or white frizzle roo. Im just ecstatic. Ill get pics soon!
